FOTD: Coastal Scents Mineral Makeup
A couple of weeks ago, I told you about my first counter with mineral makeup from Coastal Scents. I also told you that I was too chicken nervous to do a full blown look, but I took the plunge and sported a look using mineral shadows and blushes from Coastal Scents.
The eyeshadows were silky and pigmented when I swatched them on my hand. But when I tried to apply them on my lids, the color payoff for some of the colors is better than others.
Paisley took a few swipes to get a noticeable color. It was slightly darker in person than what the camera captured but it’s still a buildable shadow.
Frenzy and Moroccan gave me a good amount of color on the first try so I guess it just really depends on the shade. Good thing is that Coastal Scents has over 70 colors to choose from, so you’re bound to find a few that will work for you.
Frenzy – pearl with gold tones
Moroccan – coppery peach
Paisley – soft lilac
Coastal Scents’ blushes have nice color to them, and although its staying power isn’t as great as some other ones I use, I don’t mind reapplying because Dare is really pretty!
Dare – pinky mauve with shimmer
Sassy – matte golden brown
Overall, the shadows were long-lasting (yay!) but did crease a little bit (um, not good). I don’t normally use any eyeshadow primers, but I bet if I tried Urban Decay’s Primer Potion that everyone’s been raving about, I’m sure that these Coastal Scents shadows will be a keeper.
For the natural look below, I used
Eyes:
- MAC Shadestick in Beige-ing (base)
- Coastal Scents “Paisley” (all over lid)
- Coastal Scents “Moroccan” (crease)
- Coastal Scents “Frenzy” (browbone)
- MAC Eye Pencil in Coffee
- Lancome Cils Booster XL mascara base
- Bobbi Brown Everything Mascara
Cheeks:
- Coastal Scents “Dare”
Lips:
- Chanel Glossimer in Spark
If you want to try Coastal Scents mineral makeup, I suggest you get their “Customize Your Own Mineral Makeup Set” kit. For $29.95, you get to choose your concealer color, foundation, veil shade (setting powder), one blush color, and two eye shadow shades. This is a total steal since you’ll full sized products for everything.

Hmmm… Coastal Scents is not one I’ve heard of, but I’m loving the job you did on the eyemakeup; it’s super subtle and really well blended. I also checked out the CS website and I really love their eyeshadow pots. They remind me of BB Long Wearing Creme Shadow.

Lilan, look at your skin girl! So damn flawless!! You look gorgeous. I’m so happy to hear you’ve braved the mineral makeup. I just ordered my first samples from Everyday Minerals the other day.
And how do you get your camera to take nice pictures in the bathroom? That is a bathroom, right? Mine come out all yellow no matter what setting I’m on and even toggling the White Balance. Ho hum… pos camera.

Hi MandyPandy!
I think that the CS shadows have a lot of colors that are really cute! Let me know if you try any
Also, I haven’t really used BB Creme Shadows; I do have one sample in a gold-ish color now that you’ve brought it up. I think I need to try it now. Which colors do you like?

Hey Mrs. Lynne!
I dunno if I’m ready to try mineral concealers or foundations yet though. I actually don’t use any concealer or foundation now, except for my favorite Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer. So I’m not sure if I’m going to dabble in that, but let us know how it goes for you!
LOL, yeah, I was taking pictures in the bathroom. I have the Canon PowerShot SD 750.
In the bathroom, I change it from auto function to manual and change the setting to “Tungsten”. I just played around with the different lighting settings until I got something that doesn’t look yellow. If I leave it on the Tungsten setting and go out into natural daylight, it will look yellow so I just change the setting back to “Daylight”.
Which camera do you have? Hopefully you can figure it out, Mrs. Lynne!

Wow, you managed to get a sample from Bobbi Brown? Seriously, who did you have to kill? I only ask because the last time I was at Bobbi Brown the lady told me that ‘Bobbi doesn’t DO samples’, like Bobbi was standing behind her and frowning and shaking her head! She totally lost that sale and I haven’t been back to that counter since.
Hmm… I don’t much care for BB’s creme eyeshadow (just the packaging, sadly), but I do recall liking ‘Galaxy’ which was a sort of shimmery, metallic gray. Creme eyeshadows are good, though, and I do like MAC paints.

MandyPandy,
I actually only think that I was able to get a sample from BB because they felt sorry for me. I attended a Trend Show at Nordstrom a few months ago and purchased some Gel Liners from BB. While I was getting my face ‘did from Chanel, some heifer swiped my shopping bag and the Nordie’s folks were gracious enough to replace all my purchases AND give me samples.
Just remember - KEEP your receipts in your purse and NOT in the bag when it comes to buying makeup at Nordies. They’ll replace everything as long as you have proof!
