MAC N Collection Swatches and FOTD
I don’t know about you, but I love neutrals! I’m a fairly low-maintenance kind of gal when it comes to my everyday makeup. Most days, when I don’t have enough time to do a full-blown look, I can sport neutrals because because it takes little effort for me to pull off these subtle colors. (I generally save bolder colors for days when I have a bit more time to spend on my face).
When MAC’s new N Collection release last week, I was pretty excited to check them out - it’s full of wearable, yet beautiful and bold neutral colors. I find that each of these shades will work well with my skin tone (the entire collection is meant to be wearable for ladies of all colors) and I think that I can really create different looks with them every day.
The shadows are extremely versatile; there’s a color or two in here for everyone. Neutral Pink, Nanogold, and Remotely Grey are worth taking a look at the next time you vist your local MAC counter.
The lipsticks didn’t wow me as much but 3N and 5N were definitely the standouts for me out of the bunch.
The lipglasses were also very wearable and buildable with other colors. I honestly love them all! This is probably because I just love glosses in general. I know I can use any of these colors day in and day out for months to come. I’ll definitely be reaching for these often.
For a full description of each color, check out my original post on the N Collection.
MAC N Collection “2N” Face Chart FOTD
Here’s a look I attempted with the 2N face chart from the MAC site.
I tried to follow the Face Chart for the most part and subbed in a couple of items. Here’s what I used, all MAC unless stated otherwise:
Eyes:
- Shiseido Eyebrow and Eyeliner Compact in BL3
- Quite Natural Paint Pot (all over lid)
- Soft Ochre Paint Pot (brow bone)
- Remotely Grey e/s (over Quite Natural)
- Modest Tone e/s (crease)
- Graphblack Technakohl Liner (upper lashline & lower waterline)
- Coffee eye pencil (lower lashline)
- Cover Girl Lash Blast mascara
Cheeks:
- Rimmel Blush in Cool Down
Lips:
- Creamola Cremestick Liner
- 2N lipstick
- 1N lipglass
I hope you’re all having a great Friday! What are your plans for this weekend - I’m going to watch the NFL playoffs and test bake birthday cakes for my mom (yum!!).

love the neutral look you redid - very workday appropriate
I’m stopping by MAC after work to trade in some empty shadow pots, and I’m going to try my best not to buy anything other than a paint pot and maaaaybe one of the MSFs….but the N Collection is too tempting for me! Weekend plans - cleaning and baking

Hi Diana,
If you like neutrals, then you must look into the N Collection! Modest Tone and Remotely Grey are very workable into any look, subtle or bold!
I still haven’t experienced their MSFs, but I will someday - hopefully soon! Let me know what you think!
Also - what are you baking this weekend?!?!!!

I love neutrals too!! It’s what I wear at least 5 days a week lol. I love your FOTD, nothing beats a great neutral face.

Ohhh, great swatches and attempt on the face chart! I think you did a fab job. Get it, girl!!

Hi Mrs. Lynne,
The entire collection is sooo up my alley because I just can’t screw up neutral colors! It’s practically fool-proof - someone even commented that my face looked airbrushed today! LOL
The 2N chart looked the easiest for me to do without spending a whole lot of time. Have you ever tried the face charts before? It’s kind of fun to try and copy their looks

Aww thanks PetiteBelle! It’s been a while since I’ve heard from you, hope you’re having a wonderful new year so far!

Thanks Brittany!
I considered making the eye color a little darker but didn’t want to be too heavy-handed for work. I was really happy with how easy it was to achieve the look though! Those face charts are kind of fun to copy, I think I’m going to try another one this weekend.

You look cute, Lilan! I like the lip color on you.
I agree - neutrals are nice and easy to use. Good gateway makeup, lol.

Thanks for the pics. I’m definitely getting the neutral pink & remotely grey eyeshadows. The lipsticks & lipglosses…. I think I’mma get the Viva Glam Lipsticks instead. Hehe
Is remotely grey the more lighter brown colour?

Thanks Karen!
I’m really enjoying these colors because it’s practically fool-proof. And I need all the help I can get! Although with the paint pots, since I don’t use the cream shadows too much, I’m finding that I may need some new brushes to help blend them well. Gotta look into that and a pigment brush for my new HIP shadows!
Hope you’re having a wonderful Saturday!

Hi Sandy,
I’m looking forward to seeing the new Viva Glam as well! My favorite was VG5 so far. I’m also curious to see what Fergie will look like in their promo photos
Remotely Grey is the lighter brown with a little bit of grey in it. It’s a really nice color and it goes well with the rest of my makeup collection - go get it, girl!

Yes, I also love Remotely Grey; I think it’s a worthy successor to MAC’s Mothbrown and would be great for doing a neutral eye or even a subtle smokey-eye. Neutral Pink is alright, but it looks just like Besame’s Plum Dandy to me. I’m loving your swatch of 4N lipglass; it didn’t look like much in the store but definitely looks wearable in the pic.
I have to say, I’m loving your version of the 2N face. Those face charts always look so garish and over-the-top (and why are they always frowning?) but you’ve taken it and made it look so sophisticated and subdued. It’s tempting me to rush out and buy Remotely Grey!

Hi MandyPandy,
I agree that Remotely Grey is probably the best of the bunch. And I remember you telling me about Besame’s Plum Dandy, so now maybe I don’t have to get it! Whew, saved me a few bucks there
I really like the 5N lipstick and 4N lipglass. I enjoy wearing pink shades and that combo looks really nice. Maybe I’ll find another FOTD using those to sway you to get it!
Thanks for the compliment, girl! Those MAC face charts are kind of crazy to me. I really tried to build up the colors so that it would be darker like the chart, but the more I applied, the more I just knew it was going to make me look like a drag queen. Ack!

Fool-proof is always good
No need to worry about smudging too much color, hah.
Now that I actually have some MAC products and MAC brushes, believe it or not I haven’t tried the face charts. I used to copy them before I dove into MAC using similar drugstore product colors to achieve the look and make due with the brushes I had at the time. Now that I think about it, that is kind of ironic for me, lol.

Hey Mrs. Lynne!
What did you think of your face chart re-creations? I just tried another face chart this AM and again, it looks way more subtle than what’s on the site. I wonder if it’s just me being too chicken to apply more color or if the MAC artists are a little heavy-handed coloring the those darn pieces of paper - LOL.

I only ended up with the MSF’s but your fotd’s are totally making me lem more!
But my face is so full (double chinned wonder is the Muse) that neutrals and nudes make it look awful
I wish I could look so gorgeous with such a subdued color of shadow! You seriously have a knack for looking completely gorgeous with very little product!
So lovely!

Oh thank you again Muse! You are certainly good for my ego today!!
I’m quite sure that you can handle the nudes - your face is gorgeous and super cute!
My trick to my multiple chins is practicing my head angles in the mirror.. who do I think I am, trying out for America’s Next Top Model?? Well, I will never make it there, but there’s no reason why I can’t be fierce too, right???!?!
