MAC Originals Swatches and Parrot FOTD
With all the buzz around the Parrot eye shadow from the MAC Originals Collection release, I knew that this was my opportunity to go back and revisit wearing bolder colors I had strayed away from for the past couple of years while I, ahem, got old(er).
So when it was announced that Originals was releasing one week early, I ran out to my nearest MAC counter the day it came out to pick up this coveted eye shadow before it was all sold out. Even though I was sick and coughing up both my lungs, I made the trip out into the mall in the midst of the busiest holiday shopping week all year just to get my hands on Parrot.
And boy was I glad I did. Because the day after Christmas (the day it was supposed to release), when I was feeling better, I made another trip to the MAC counter to check out the rest of the collection only to discover that Parrot was indeed already sold out! Boy, those makeup divas sure act fast!
Nonetheless, I bought the rest of the items I wanted from the collection:
Memorabilia – Dirty purple (Matte)
Parrot – A soaringly electric turquoise (Frost)
Alum – Mid-tone blue grey with soft blue pearl (Satin)
Full On Lust – Neutral brown pink (Cream)
Real Desire – Deep plum with red pearl (Frost)
Back to Del Rio – Deep brown red
I loved most of the colors in this collection because they were all so wearable and shades that I could incorporate into my everyday looks. They truly are Original and items that I can see myself go back to again and again.
MAC Originals – Parrot FOTD
Here’s my attempt to achieve a work-friendly version of MAC’s Full On Lust face chart. It’s not as dramatic but I loved it and it was super easy for me to do, considering I hadn’t attempted color in so long!
Eyes:
- MAC Paint Pot in Painterly (base)
- MAC Originals in Parrot (all over lid)
- Laura Mercier in Topaz (crease and outer)
- Laura Mercier in Pearl (browbone)
- MAC Eye Pencil in Coffee
- Lancome Cils Booster XL mascara base
- L’Oreal Original Voluminous
Cheeks:
- Rimmel Blush in Cool Down
Lips:
- MAC Lip Pencil in Lure
- MAC Originals Lip Glass in Full On Lust
Did you snag yourself a Parrot too? What else did you get to add to your makeup arsenal? I’d love to see some of the looks you created with these timeless Originals!

hey lilan! getting in on that parrot action! kewlies! you made the look with a gentle burst of color. you remind me of a covergirl =) how do you rate the rimmel blush. what color is it exactly? it looks great on you. great product photos. i passed on parrot, because i knew i could create the color and it didn’t quite live up to its hype. but the MAC fanatic in me wants it =((((

Hey Kia,
I totally jumped on the Parrot wagon, and I’m never looking back!
The Rimmel blush is not bad. Its staying power is not quite like that of other blushes, but I still find myself reaching for it pretty often. It comes in a duo, with a darker pinky shade on one side and a dusty rose on the other. I use the dusty rose side of it mostly because it gives a subtle color that I really like.
I really don’t know if Parrot is worth all the hype, but I gotta say, it really is a gorgeous color and I’m glad it’s in my makeup stash now. Plus, I really think that every fanatic should have one. Go get it, girl!!

Hey!
Great “work face” with parrot. I didn’t do so well with the subtle look in my “Parrot for diva’s on a budget” tutorial on my YouTube channel.
The L’Oreal HIP Shadow Duo “Showy” has a Parrot dupe (the lighter color in the duo) and when I discovered I had the duo I decided to do a tutorial showing how you can get the MAC look for less.
I love HIP and I think it came out ok. Not a work look, but great for a party.

Thanks Mrs. Lynne!
I absolutely love Back to Del Rio, it’s fantastic! I also really like Real Desire to create a red lip look too.
Enjoy your weekend!

Hi Denise,
I watched your video and the Showy duo really does look similar! And the look you created is definitely worthy of a fun night out with the girls!
Keep finding those drugstore duplicates for us, Denise! Looking forward to it
Have a wonderful weekend!

I have to say, your makeup always looks impeccable, and I’m really loving that ‘Full on Lust’. Besides Russian Red (of course) I think that it’s the real gem of the collection!
I’m almost sorry to see they brought back Parrot; so many people had been selling it for such astronomical prices that I feel a lot of kids won’t be going to college now thanks to this collection.
Still working that Rimmel blush I see! I really admire your restraint with blush; it’s the only product I really go crazy with (and then I end up looking like Bette Davis in ‘Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?’).

Hey MandyPandy!
I really like Full On Lust too; it’s subtle enough that I can wear it as a neutral, but sassy enough with flecks of irridescent gold – uh, GORGEGOUS! I haven’t tried Russian Red yet, but Karen (Makeup and Beauty Blog) recommended it to me once too. I gotta go check it out next time I’m at MAC..
The hype around Parrot is kind of funny, and to sacrifice college funds?? LOL If I were a die-hard, that might be me, so I’ll stop laughing now
I dunno, sometimes I feel like I don’t have enough blush on. And I feel really boring because I wear the same blush colors all the time. Which blushers are you currently using?
Hope you’re having a great weekend!

Hi Karen!
Thanks for stopping by! I definitely stayed dry for the most part yesterday but our power was out ALL day! It finally came back this AM and I’m soo glad. I never realized how much TV I watched until I couldn’t watch it any more.
The Boyfriend and I just played cards and drew and played Hangman on a Doodle Pro toy all night. It was actually really fun!
Hope you had a great Friday and stay dry the rest of the weekend!

Ohhh girl, you look HOT! I’m not so into the Parrot because I have Shimmermoss which is a greener version so I didn’t want to get it. It looks FAB on you. And so do the lip colors. Get it!

Well, I meant that people were selling it on e-bay for exorbitant prices to pay for their kids college tuition, but of course it could def. work the other way around, too: parents squandering their kids futures for a tiny pot of eyeshadow, LOL! Well, not anymore now that MAC has reissued it; the bottom has dropped out of the market (at least on e-bay).
Russian Red is a great bluish-red for light-olive skinned individuals; it’s my go-to red!
I actually use Becca’s Creme Blush. I did a review on it a while back and am on my second pot of the stuff now!

Hey Mandy,
Blue-reds are definitely more up my alley. I kind of hate when MA’s at the counters always tell me I’m “warm” and then proceed to put something that’s a tomato color on me. Even if I tell them I’m not really into it, they never really listen making it hard for me to find reds that I really like.
I hope they still have Russian Red at the counters! And creme blush sounds divine. I haven’t used any but I heard about Lancome’s breakout creme blush a couple of months ago. I wonder if I can still nab Becca at Sephora since they’re being discontinued there. Probably not…
Hope you’re having a great Monday!
