Review: Cover Girl Lash Blast
From all the rave reviews for Cover Girl’s latest Lash Blast mascara, you would’ve sworn that this was the next best thing since sliced bread!
I didn’t think that anything would sway me from my favorite, tried and true, L’Oreal Original Voluminous mascara until I read The Makeup Girl’s review complete with before and after photos.
I searched high and low – well, maybe just the Cover Girl section of my local Rite Aid – without any luck for months. It wasn’t until a couple of weeks ago while doing my bi-weekly Target run that I saw that huge Cover Girl display complete with rows and rows of that orange mascara tube; I grabbed one immediately and tried it out the next day.
My thoughts? I’m not entirely convinced.
The Pros:
- the rubber-bristled wand
The Cons:
- the (fat) rubber-bristled wand
- the fat-arse tube that only a giant can easily grip
I like the idea of the sturdy rubber bristles because this helps to keep the shape of the wand over time. If you’ve noticed, sometimes the bristles inside other mascara tubes can get flimsy or clumpy after pulling it in and out of the tube a few times. I can say without a doubt that Cover Girl’s Lash Blast wand will keep its shape and give consistent results until that darn thing expires.
There’s a downside to the rubber bristles and that the wand is too fat. I found it hard to get to every lash and separate them with it since I don’t normally use a lash comb.
The other thing I don’t like is the big-arse orange tube it comes in. There is no reason why this mascara is oddly shaped, making it rather hard to grip – especially if you have smaller hands like me. Hey, I had to do extra piano exercises because I couldn’t reach certian keys on that darn instrument.
Overall, this mascara is a decent one that I’d recommend over some others that I’ve tried. It gave me some length, which is always good because I have super short lashes. It also provided some volume but not lots. Also, on this particular day it clumped a little bit. Maybe because I was in a hurry to apply a couple of coats. With a little more care, as The Makeup Girl suggests, I’ll get better results.
Bottom line: Lash Blast is a mascara that I will use again. However, due to its odd shape, it’s hard to say if I’ll actually buy it again – maybe if there’s a sale.
Have you tried Cover Girl’s Lash Blast mascara? What do you think about it?

Heya Lilan, I haven’t tried CoverGirl’s LashBlast because I still gotta finish up my tube of L’Oreal Voluminous. Last Blast does a good job giving volume and length, although not as impressive as I thought it would. I guess I won’t be bothering with it afterall. Thanks for the review!

I think your review for this product is right on the dot. It was just an “okay” mascara for me.

Hey Anna,
I’m in love with my L’Oreal Voluminous too! I’ll admit, I’ve been using Lash Blast more and more on alternating days. I think the actual formula is good – it coats well and doesn’t flake by the end of the day.
Still, it doesn’t give me consistent results – sometimes it clumps and sometimes not – and the big wand is awkward for me.
Some people swear by it but I say it’s not worth all the hype.
Hope you’re having a great weekend!

Hey Miss Kia!
Totally agree, it doesn’t live up to the hype for me. I haven’t tried it with other brushes, but that’s just the lazy in me – LOL.
I’ve never tried Dior, but I’ve heard tons about it. I’m like you, not a fan of paying for mascara when I’ve found a perfectly good one that I can get at the drugstore
However, a mascara that smells like lotion DOES intrigue me…
Go get waterproof Voluminous, girl!! I’ve seen it at Target!

Hi Brittany,
Hope you’re having a good weekend so far! I was hoping for better results from Lash Blast. What’s your favorite mascara right now?

Eh. I tried it a while back; it clumped and flaked and didn’t look too hot. I don’t understand the hype, personally
PS: I’m back, with my first new review. Enjoy, mon cherie!
PPS: I’ll try to crank out a few more soon.

Yeah, I wasn’t uber thrilled with it too. But it’s actually one that I’ve been using on rotation with my Original Voluminous and another one that I’m testing for a review soon
Glad to see you’re back! I read your review on your site earlier – just haven’t written a comment yet

Hi Jami,
Thanks for suggestion for Physician’s Formula. I’m really enjoying the rubber bristles from Lash Blast so I definitely want to try your recommendation!
Happy Tuesday to you!

There are so many Lash Blast followers, I can see why folks would love it. But it didn’t make my heart skip a beat when I was testing it. Also, the wand itself is super fat, and made it hard for me to get the smaller lashes
Guess I gotta keep testing more!!

I have thin, sparse, straight Asian eyelashes and this stuff is the only mascara that I have ever really thought made a difference. I agree the tube is unsightly, but it could be in a burlap sack and I’d buy the stuff! It adds a lot of volume but it is not wet, so that they stay curled. And no clumps!!

Hi Elizabeth,
Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment!
I have wimpy Asian lashes too and I have to admit that since this review, Lash Blast has really grown on me. I do like that the formula is a little drier, because it really helps to hold the curl. Other mascaras that I’ve used are too glossy and make my lashes fall right after I’ve curled them!
Thanks for reminding me of what a good mascara this really is! I gotta use it tomorrow now!
