Review: Skyn Iceland Pure Cloud Cream
Being right smack in the middle of winter, I was really excited to have an opportunity from Total Beauty to sample Pure Cloud Cream from Skyn Iceland.
Skyn Iceland is a brand which formulates their products to treat stressed skin – from irritable, dull, clogged, prematurely wrinkled, prone to breakouts, to itchy and flaky.
With these claims, I looked forward to relieving my skin from the cold and fickle San Francisco weather. But to my disappointment, Pure Cloud Cream didn’t live up to the hype it promised – or that Vogue article, for that matter.
The sample of cream I received smelled a bit citrusy, it reminded me of Bliss Thinny Thin Chin. The texture was also lovely, not too thick, but luxurious enough to feel good applying it onto my skin. All Skyn Iceland products contain the Biospheric Complex – a proprietary blend of mineral-rich Icelandic glacial water, indigenous artic berries, and oxygenated liposomes, butterfly bush and thyme extracts.
I used Pure Cloud Cream everyday during my morning skin regimen for five days. It called for usage in the morning and evening, but since I don’t normally remoisturize at night (lazy, I know), I wanted to give it a true test of how I regularly use my moisturizers.
When applying, the cream sank right into my face, which I love because I hate when creams and moisturizers just sit on top of your skin. By the end of Day 1, I had some dry patches on my forehead and on one cheek that became noticeably irritable to me although I fought the urge to scratch. I thought that maybe since my skin was dry, it was just drinking up every bit of cream to nourish my face and that I just needed to apply more.
So on Day 2 – 4, I applied a little bit more of the cream before putting on my makeup, and still by the end of the day, my skin had dried out again leaving me with a flaky forehead – not cute.
By Day 5, I applied more on my forehead than other places and I didn’t see any changes in my skin, or improvements in the performance of Pure Cloud Cream for me. This might be a good everyday moisturizer, but it definitely didn’t heal me of dry skin.
At $75 US for a 1.7 oz jar, I wouldn’t splurge on this to save my face from winter. I’d probably use this in the summer or in milder climates where it’s not so cold.

Holy crack! $75? The cream better be calling me “babe” or something!
That’s too bad that it didn’t work out for your skin during this time of year. But at least you have something for when it does warm up

I can’t wait til winter in Sydney. I always look better during Winter time. LOL. MAC Heatherette, it’s just okay. Cute packaging though
I want to get them limited editions beauty powder. There’s one that’s like blushbaby but with some shimmer on it.
This month I only purchased Clinique Perfectly Real foundation & MAC Studio fix powder foundation. My guy friend bought me blushbaby blush from MAC & other products. I know I got a peachykeen blush and a set from Estee Lauder. He’s so sweet to me

I totally agree with your review! I tried it for Total Beauty as well, and was left feeling as disappointed as you! I would definitely not spend $75 on it.

Hey Mrs. Lynne,
Yeah, for $75 dollars, I wouldn’t use this product. I already use a Lancome moisturizer on the regular during the warmer months that works great for me.
What do you currently use?

Hi Sandy,
I really like wintertime as well – the clothes are so much cuter too
I don’t know if I’m going to get anything from Heatherette – my haul from Fafi put a dent in my pocketbook!
I love Peachykeen blush! It’s one of my favorites! What was in your Estee Lauder set? I haven’t used that brand in so long!

Hi Jamie,
Happy Friday!
I was soo disappointed
I was hoping that this cream was going to rock my world for $75, but it didn’t. I felt like a cheap date – LOL
What moisturizers are you loving right now?

During the day I use Kukui Nut Oil and if it’s still to dry (weather depending) I add my Oil of Olay Complete on top. Works for me, hah.

I’m so shi shi when it comes to creams ‘n stuff. I’m using Lancome right now because the lady was like, “Don’t you want something for anti-aging?” as if I were getting so old. It freaked me out so I bought a bottle and haven’t looked back since.
I love Olay’s face wash though – hot stuff!

*gasp* I would be freaked out also! I’d probably buy two bottles at that rate, lol.
You got me girl. I’m kind of the procrastinator in taking action when I should definitely be more preventative. For my eyes, I’m using this Neutrogena one but I’m kind of stupid about it because I alway forget to put it on, lol.
Omg, you said “shi shi”! I don’t really know what language that originated from (Chinese?), but that’s how we say “pee” here. I’ve got Big Tyke saying that, hah!

shi shi means “pee”??? LOL
I definitely need to be more preventative when it comes to my eyes – I don’t want wrinkles, yo! I act like I’m going take care of my eyes when I get sample creams in GWPs but even then I forget, or stop altogether when the sample runs out!

There has to be something better for cheaper, right?

Yup shi-shi, haha. Maybe it’s pidgin or something but that’s what they call it here.
Then I bet between you and me that we can buy one bottle and watch it go down through the years instead of months or weeks, lol. But that’s why I avoid stretching my lid skin when doing my liner and I use brushes all the time for application, even paint pots. Wrinkles got me scurred.

Hi Ashley,
I agree that there’s probably something better out there.
What do you use currently?

Oh dear, Mrs. Lynne,
I’ve been noticing that the skin around my eyes are getting softer! I know age is going to be a factor eventually, but can’t it wait another 20 years.. PUH-LEEESE!!!!

I tried the Pure Cloud Cream and LOVE it. I find the texture fluffy and light but it really delivers on the moisture. it has 5% Sodium Hyaluronate in it, which is higher than almost anything out there for hydration. I think it’s worth every dollar.

Hi Sarah,
Thanks for stopping by!
I agree, the texture of Pure Cloud Cream is lovely! But it just didn’t do anything for me regarding moisture, so it was a little disappointing.

That’s EXACTLY what I’m saying, right? Not now.. I’m still in my uh, dare I say, LATE-20’s
