Origins’ Youthtopia Eye Cream

youthtopia.jpg

There are so many eye creams on the market that claim to have anti-aging qualities. I have yet to use an eye cream on the regular, although I should probably start soon – I ain’t gettin’ any younger! ;)

One thing that caught my eye about Origins’ Youthtopia anti-aging eye cream was that it noted its star ingredient list, rhodiola, on the label. The Origins website says that it’s a “Siberian herb linked with longevity, visibly de-ages, reduces puffiness and helps empower fragile eye skin to rebound from damaging stress”.

Still, I was curious so I Googled the term to see what I’d find.

According to Drugs.com, rhodiola is used to treat “fatigue, depression, anemia, GI problems (??), infections, CNS disorders, fertility problems, cancers, aches, and pains. R. rosea also may possess antioxidant and anticarcinogenic effects”. Hmm, nothing like what Origins said it would do.

So I was skeptical; it didn’t sound like including such an ingredient would be beneficial to my skin. Why should I buy a product marketed with an ingredient to help treat fertility problems and infections – things that happen to you on the inside, not outside?

But I did notice that the last line says “may possess antioxidant and anticarcinogenic effects”. Upon further research, it seems that rhodiola can help reduce the occurance of cancers, including skin cancer. And there was my big “a-ha!” moment.

It all makes sense to me now, although I’m not sure of it still makes sense to call it an “anti-aging” product. This just sounds like it would be good for your skin regardless of age if it contains cancer-preventing ingredients. I think I may give this one a try after all.

What do you think? Have there been products out there that you’ve tried or steered clear of just by reading its ingredient list?

It’s Thursday, and the weekend is almost here, yippee!  Do you have any fun plans for the weekend?  I’m going to take it easy since I’m out of town for a wedding next weekend – maybe I’ll go get a massage and a pedi… ooo, I can’t wait!
