shu uemura REBIRTH Swatches & FOTD

rebirth-spring-look.jpg

I’m embarrassed to say, I’m a shu uemura color virgin.

Of course I own the infamous lash curler, it’s been a staple in my beauty routine for many years now. However, when it came to the color collections, I hate to admit that I’ve never tried any of the makeup products or even the beautiful lashes (eek!). However, I just bought some last weekend – more on that later :)

And it’s not because I’m not curious, it’s because shu uemura counters are few and far between for me. The closest one is downtown and I only venture that deep into the city every once in a while – it’s sad, I know.

Nonetheless, I finally got to try shu uemura’s latest spring color collection, REBIRTH, full of vibrant, gorgeous colors that reminded me of the first signs of the season, just as Mr. Uemura intended.

First of all, I have to say that I love the packaging on all the products. I love how it’s all clear, and you can see the colors without having to open anything up; very convenient for the lazy ones like me. It’s definitely sleek and sexy – you know, the Japanese wouldn’t have had it any other way, right?? And the tri-colored eye pencils are like none other; it’s genius. I feel like I’m 6 years old, playing with makeup that’s made just for me!

I really like the texture of the eye shadows. They’re really fine and are nicely pigmented. I love Earth Brown – a coppery brown with a nice amount of shimmer. At first, Pristine Green reminded me of MACs You’re Fresh from the Fafi Eyes 2 quad. So much that I just swatched it on my hand right now (LOL!). Turns out, Pristine Green is slightly more green and the color is more concentrated and pigmented. You’re Fresh has more sparkle in it and is sheerer when looking at them side-by-side.

When I swatched the tri-colored pencils they seemed like they’d be a little dry. When I use them to apply on my eyes, it definitely tugs a little bit. I’m going experiment with ways to make it work better. For now, it’s easiest to use on the lower lashline. Just apply and go, that’s what I did!

The lip colors are silky smooth and really moisturizing – I love this about them! Dewy Beige is a yummy cafe latte shade and Serene Pink is a nice and neutral color.

When I apply the color to my lips (I hardly ever use a lip brush), it seems like the colors don’t deposit too well. Meaning, I have to swipe a couple of times to get color in the cracks of my lips. It doesn’t bother me too much though, since it lasts for a few hours and doesn’t dry out my lips like other lipsticks do.

Today’s FOTD is inspired by the Spring Look above, sorry for the whack half-smile! I was running really late and had to snap quickly ;)
