MAC Fafi Hipness & Joyous Beauty Powder
I’ve been getting lots of questions on if Hipness blush from the Fafi collection is the same as Joyous from the recently released Beauty Powders collection.
At first glance, they are very similar – side by side both are a nice, bright peachy shade that definitely lends itself well to being worn regularly during the spring season. However, when swatched, there’s a noticeable difference – to me anyway.
Hipness is a lighter peach shade. The texture is also not as soft as the finely milled beauty powder. Joyous is definitely more pigmented, giving off more of an orange color. There’s also a slight bit of sheen to Joyous, whereas Hipness is lighter and is a little more muted or dull, if you will.
Overall, I’d say, color-wise, if you have one you can pass on the other. However, if you’re into textures of your blushes, I’d take Joyous. It’s much softer and you can control the color by layering.

thanks for the comparison!! yay! i’m in the majority. i picked hipness, because hipness is fun and whimsical ( like the word whimsical and being whimsical LOL). besides, i’m not in the market for another peachy blush. hipness is peachy in a unique way… i have sunbasque, margin, etc.. so i’m good on the peach blushes. oh i must say, i didn’t give joyous a chance just by the look of the pan (not being interested in peach blushes) so is this a fair assessment? oops!

I wasn’t too interested in the hipness, but Joyous definitely looks interesting! I only picked up True Romantic from this collection, but I think I want to pick up Joyous as well. Thanks for the comparison!

Hey Kia!
I’m actually enjoying Hipness more than Joyous lately – while they both work on me as a peachy blush, I like that Hipness is easier to apply. One heavy-handed stroke of Joyous will make me look like a clown!
If you’re happy with Hipness, girl, you don’t need anything else!!

Hi beautytalk,
True Romance is a beautiful color, I’m glad you picked it up! Hopefully you’ll get Joyous too!! It’s pretty pigmented so apply with a light hand!
