Saturday Fun in the Sun (plus a little Chanel!)
It’s so gorgeous in San Francisco this weekend that the Boyfriend and I decided to spend the afternoon at Golden Gate Park today. We packed a mini picnic with sandwiches, fresh strawberries, and chips in our little red cooler and ventured off to find a nice spot in the park for a leisurely walk.
I’ve actually never spent any time in Golden Gate Park aside from driving through and the two times I ran through it while training for a marathon two years ago. It was nice to take a stroll and stop to look at the American Bison that live in a paddock in the park. I mean, really? Live buffalo in San Francisco?? It’s pretty wild!
Just beyond the buffalo paddock is Spreckels Lake and the Model Yacht Club where a few guys were playing their remote-control toy motor boats. It’s pretty fascinating how fast they go and there’s even a toy rescue boat in case one of them runs out of gas. I wonder when they have competitions, it would be fun to watch because those boats are speedy little devils!
I didn’t realize, but there are also quite a bit of turtles swimming in the lake – and it looks like they prefer to hang out with their mother turtle and sunbathe.
By this time, we were getting a little bit of the munchies and found a shady spot to cop a squat near the Queen Wilhelmina Tulip Garden right in front of the Dutch Windmill in the Park. The colors of the tulips were so vibrant, it made me happy to be outside today instead of doing chores at home.
After our picnic, I stopped by Nordstrom’s Beauty Event to check out some new goodies from Chanel – I mean, could this day have gotten any better??
This season, Chanel’s Summer Collection features warm bronzes, earthy shades and khakis. I sat down with makeup artist Margo this afternoon and she gave me a natural, sun-kissed look. So even when it’s foggy and overcast in San Francisco in July, as it often is, I can pretend like it’s 76 degrees and I’m on a tropical island somewhere
Here’s what the MUA used on me:
Face:
- Cameo Vitalumiere Foundation with SPF 15
- Sable D’or Bronzing Powder (Summer, LE)
Eyes:
- Khaki, Ombre Essentielle (Summer)
- Safari, Ombre Essentielle (Summer)
- Sable D’or Bronzing Powder (Summer, LE)
- Atoll, Ombre D’eau (Summer, LE)
- Ebony, Long-Lasting Eyeliner
- Black Black, Instant Lash Mascara
Cheeks:
- Sable D’or Bronzing Powder (Summer, LE)
- Be-B0p, Irreelle Blush
Lips:
- Mauritius, Aqualumiere (Summer, LE)
- Seashell, Glossimer (Summer)
- Nude, Precision Lip Definer
I wanted to get the Glossimer in Gazelle and the liquid eye shadow in Atoll, but they were sold out of both – boo. I have them both on order now and they should be coming in the mail next week! And because I couldn’t walk away empty-handed I got Beaute Initiale Multi-Protection Eye Cream. I definitely need a good eye cream and I’m hoping that this will do the trick!

Turtles!! (I adore them – so, so, so cute!)
I love the lips – they seem a bit darker than your go-to colour, no? It works nicely with your lightly bronzed cheeks!

Hi Rae,
Are the turtles soo adorable?? Although I’m not sure how they swim their way around the lake; the water is extremely murky!
The lip color is little darker than what I’d wear normally. That’s because she layered a lipstick underneath a gloss. I’m hoping that I can achieve the same look with a lighter lip with just the Gazelle lip gloss when it comes in the mail
Do you have any lemmings for Chanel’s new summer collection?

Hi The Daily Obsession,
GG Park is such a lovely place to spend a relaxing afternoon. Did you live in San Francisco before?
Safari eye shadow really was pretty but I just couldn’t justify spending that much on a single shadow
Hope you’re having a great weekend!

Hey Kia!
I would work at the Chanel counter in a second just to be able to take advantage of the discounts! You KNOW I’d get into big trouble and give my paychecks right back to them, LOL!
If you could work at any counter, which one would it be?

Looks like you two had a great day!! I LOVE turtles. I’ve owned 5 turtles over time. And to see those little ones in the picture melts my heart. Awww… sooo cute!
And that MA really dolled you up. I love the glow and it really is sunkissed. Very very lovely ’specially with the normal overcast in that area. Yay for makeup, hah.

Hi Glosslizard!
I hope you got a chance to get outside this weekend too – it was sooo hot! I only wish the weather would stay that way forever
You have no idea how bummed I was when I heard that Gazelle was sold out that day – but luckily they found me one from another store; I can’t wait to get my hot little hands on it. Did you pick up some more goodies from Chanel aside from the lovely glossimer?

Hi The Daily Obsession –
The Bay Area is a wonderful place to grow up! I have a few friends who are from here; they swear to me that they’ll never leave because they love it so much
I’ve lived here for just over 6 years now and it definitely feels like home to me!
Happy Tuesday to you!

I got to frolic in the city too! Hubby took me to Union Square for my birthday! I didn’t even have to wear a sweater, LOL!
Ha! You know me so well!
I ended up going back for the mascara in Emeraude! My eyes reflect green nicely, so I just couldn’t pass up the gorgeous green mascara!
On April 16th, 2008 Lilan said:
Oh Happy Birthday, Glosslizard!
It sounds like your hubby is a real sweet one! Union Square must have been so fun over the weekend – tons of people watching, I’m sure!
Ooo, I saw the green mascara but I was too scared – I don’t steer too far away from black. I know, I know, I’m ballsy! LOL
It must look so amazing on you! Green is such a pretty color that I think really complements most people.
Hope you’re having an awesome Hump Day with another gorgeous day here in the Bay
On April 16th, 2008 Glosslizard said:
Hi Lilan!
Yeah, the people-watching was so good, I kept asking Hubby “You don’t mind doing this, do you?” (him being a total shop-o-phobe) and he said “No, actually, this is pretty fun!” He was totally digging watching everyone go by!
Thanks! You know how it is, some days are experimental days, and some days are conservative neutral days! I just like to be prepared for all of them!
My Hump Day has been great! Hope yours has too!

Hi Glosslizard,
The Boyfriend is a total whimp when it comes to shopping as well. We usually just get out to window shop and call it “exercising” – LOL!
I totally hear ya on the conservative vs. experimental days. Today is a completely neutral day, but yesterday I tried out my Heatherette trio with the blue and it was so bright! I’m working on a post soon!
It’s another beautiful Thursday! I love it
