Thank Goodness for Airplane Snacks, Or Lack Thereof
Is it just me or are the airlines just getting stingier and stingier with the food and drink on their flights? Actually, at this point, I may just take stingy over all the cancellations happening this week with today being the 4th day of cancellations in a row!
As many of you read, I recently took a trip to Chicago and got there via an American Airlines flight (thank goodness we made it there and back okay!). Now, I haven’t flown with them for many years (I’m totally into JetBlue for my travels back and forth to my hometown in Orange Country) but I do recall that they used to feed you back in the day. I know they haven’t done full on meals for a while now, but come on – peanuts, cookies, chips – anything?? I only got two drinks on my 4+ hour flight to and from the Windy City. Even JetBlue gives you those yummy Terra Blue Chips to munch on while I watch DirectTV. Note to major airlines – put TVs in the headrests so we have something to pass the time, please!
Anywho, figuring that I wouldn’t get properly fed on my flight, I planned for back up and brought along a bag of Flat Earth chips I got to snack on so that I wouldn’t pass out from not eating. PS – Notice those ad banners on my site? Well, I clicked on one once and got a coupon for a free bag!! I think if you click on them now, you can get a coupon for $1 off. Or get your coupon HERE.
It’s a good thing I toted these along with me – they are so good and curbed my hunger! My favorite is the Tangy Tomato Ranch flavor because, well because who doesn’t love ranch?? I also like the Farmland Cheddar variety. They’re a super tasty alternative to your regular cheesy chips and claim to have 1/2 serving of vegetables in every ounce of crisps. I don’t know about that, but it does make me feel better when I eat them if I think they’re healthier for me.
Moral of the story is, next time you’re traveling on a long flight, pack yourself a snack to get you through. If you can find one that’s a healthier alternative for you, then you get extra brownie points! Lastly, if you’re looking to pack a sweet snack, let me advise against the sweeter Flat Earth varieties like Peach Mango and Apple Cinnamon. While they might sound good, they don’t work well for me as a chip. Go for the savory ones!

I love love love JetBlue. I was on them last week. The DirectTV is seriously a saint. Gotta love it!

JetBlue is the best thing to happen to air travel! Where do you go recently? Don’t you wish that your flights were just a little longer so you could watch more TV??

The only airline I had feed me anything substantial in the past few years was Southwest. They gave a snack box with full size wheat thins, cheese and crackers, beef jerky, and a bag of cookie thins on my flight from Chicago to Vegas.
Frontier Airlines also has TV like Jet Blue does but they charge $5 for it. And Midwest Airlines bakes chocolate chip cookies onboard (the whole plane smells incredible!) . But both serve limited markets.

Hi Carleen,
Warm baked cookies on a flight? Smells, er, sounds divine! I’ve never heard of Midwest Airlines before but I sure I hope I get to someday!
