Get Out of This World with MAC Solar Field
MAC launched Solar Field in conjunction with Neo Sci-Fi, a collection that introduces a fun new product for MAC lovers everywhere. Two words. Solar Bits.
Solar Bits ($19.50 US) are awesome for folks like me who would like to wear pigments, but are dummies when it comes to application. You know what I’m talking about, pigment powder everywhere on your face, hands, clothes, you name it - I’ve gotten pigment on it.
This new form of pigment comes in little cream clusters that you can pick up with your brush and apply onto to your eye lids, patting the clusters so that they break apart on your eyelids. You can pat the clusters to create a more textured look, or use a blending brush to blend out the clusters to make the finished effect look more like traditional, powdered eye shadow. How you play with these solar bits is totally up to you, which is what makes this brand new product from MAC so interesting and fun!
The colors that released with Solar Field complement Neo Sci-Fi nicely, with beautiful shimmering golds and bronzes.
From Left to Right:
Black Ore Rich black with gold pearl
Bronzescape Clean yellow brown with gold pearl
Scatterrays Soft Metallic peach with gold pearl
Sunpower Light metallic tan with gold pearl
Here’s an FOTD using Neo Sci-Fi and Solar Field that Bradley from the Stonestown MAC counter did on me yesterday while I was scoping out the new goodies:
Eyes:
Groundwork paint pot, base all over lid
Neo Sci-Fi Evening Aura e/s, pat center of the lids and blend out left & right
Solar Bits in Sunpower, inner crease
Neo Sci-Fi Magnetic Fields e/s, outer V and crease
Solar Bits in Black Ore, outer crease
Coffee Eye Pencil, upper lashline
Cheeks:
Neo Sci-Fi Powder Blush in Spaced Out
Lips:
Neo Sci-Fi l/s in Pleasureseeker
Neo Sci-Fi l/g in Soft & Slow
So what do you think about these new MAC Solar Bits? The next big thing? A huge miss? Prefer traditional powder shadows? I can only imagine that MAC is going to release Solar Bits in new shades to really see how these are accepted by the masses. My guess is it’s going to be a hit - when I stopped by Nordstrom last night, Black Ore was already sold out!

You look great!! Such a pretty and soft smoky eye!
I ordered Black Ore; I know you can use it on cheeks, too, but, uh, I don’t think I’ll be using it on my cheeks. I’m really looking forward to playing with it. (I went to my counter on Monday — “The new collection comes out this week, right?” “Oh, no, it’s next week,” she said. FEH.)

In Brazil we have an eye shadow with this exact texture (as far as I can see in the pictures)! It was always an alternative to MAC pigments, which are so expensive here. It’s made by only one brand and the problem is that it comes in only 12 colors. I’m looking forward to try the Solar Bits when (or if) they come out here in Brazil.

Love the look!! I hate how smoky eyes often look kinda distorted on monolids, but you pulled it off really well!! Very clean and polished, not a mess at all

Looks pretty on you. 4 words “wanna try, not here!” hahaha

Hi Jeanne!
Oh gosh, I wouldn’t wear Black Ore on my cheeks either! LOL
You’ll have lots of fun playing with it - it was hard for me to resist taking out all the clusters and pinching them between my fingers!
Happy Friday Jeanne! We’ll have to do an afternoon as Sephora one of these days!

Hi Erin,
Thanks for stopping by!
They should be out in Canada very soon I hope! Can you order them online? The little clusters are very fun

Hi Renata!
You live in Brazil? That’s pretty awesome
The MAC solar bits only come in 4 colors right now so you have an advantage with your 12 shades - what brand is it?
I hope you’ve got a fun weekend planned, how’s the weather in Brazil right now?

Hi Rae,
Happy Friday to you!
Ya, I thought that my eyelids were going to look like a disaster when he was applying the shadow to my lids. But, I was pleasantly surprised
Have you checked out this new MAC collection yet?

Hi Nikki,

Do you have any plans for the weekend? It’s Memorial Day weekend here which means I get three days to relax, yay!

That’s a great look on you. So sexy and sultry. I too think this will be a big hit!

LOL Kia! I’ll definitely try not to!

Thanks Mrs. Lynne! It’s definitely darker than I normally wear it but it was really fun to have the MA do a look on me that wasn’t scary - you know some of them don’t know what to do with our Asian eyes

The weather is just great, I can’t believe we’re less than a month away from winter. We’re getting 27-celsius-degree days here and we can go to the beach anytime (I live in Rio de Janeiro).
The eye shadows that look like Solar Bits is from a brand called Vult, very inexpensive make-up, less than 5 dollars per eye shadow.
I always come to your website because I love your looks and the news about make-up;

Hi Renata,
How awesome that you’ve got beach weather all year ’round! And you’re definitely lucky to have a quality makeup brand where you are for less than $5! We’ve got good drugstore brands that are good quality but, their prices are rising a little bit too.
Thanks for stopping by regularly and posting comments!
Hope you’re having a great weekend

Hi Brittany,
Happy Memorial Day weekend!
I’m hardly a pigment kinda girl too but these new solar bits are promising that maybe I’ll try using them more often

Hi Grayburn!
Hopefully this makes it to Europe soon - are there any collections that are released in Europe that aren’t released here in the States?
Hope you’re having a great week!
