The Movies, Incredible SF Views, and Cake too

For those of you who are not from the Bay Area, here’s my opportunity to share my glorious city with you!

On Memorial Day, the Boyfriend and I went on a date to the Metreon to catch a movie. Iron Man was so fun; it making me like Robert Downey, Jr. all that much more when I see him. He’s sassy and a great actor - when is the sequel coming out?!

Afterwards, we cruised around San Francisco for a few hours trying to kill time before our dinner reservation. While aimlessly roaming around the city, we started to realize what a wonderful day it was in the Bay Area and decided to play tourist. We drove through Fisherman’s Wharf and heading up to Telegraph Hill to catch the glorious views and spend a few minutes at Coit Tower.

From the road leading up to Coit Tower, you can get a clear 360 views of the Transamerica building in the Downtown Financial District while you’re waiting to make your way up to the base of the tower. Once you’re up, the sights are so beautiful with true 360 panoramic views of the Bay and Golden Gate bridges and Angel Island in to the north.

Then we made our way to Russian Hill where we took a walk down Polk Street, trying to scope out new restaurants to try. And although Pesce, Yabbies Coastal Kitchen, and Nick’s Crispy Tacos sounded soo yummy - our reservation was up the hill at Hyde Street Bistro.

The Boyfriend and I had such a nice day together that I think we both had expectations to end the day on a high note. Unfortunately, our dinner was less than average (boo, I know..). With traditional French fare on the menu, I started with a Carmelized Onion and Blue Cheese Tart and he had French Onion Soup. Both were blah - the pastry mine came with wasn’t flaky or crispy, or even “tart”-ish. It was kinda just stale and chewy. His soup definitely lacked flavor and wasn’t piping hot as most onion soups served in mini crock pots are. Strike 1.

For our entrees, I had Pan-Roasted Stuffed Pork Tenderloin with potatoes and shitake mushrooms. The pork was good, but the sides served with it was way too oily. I could feel the grease shooting out of the mushrooms as I bit into them. The Boyfriend’s scallops were pretty yummy overall and I enjoyed the saffron rice on his plate. Overall, the dishes just felt really blah - super old school, like only the older Frenchies would really appreciate it. I don’t mind traditional fare, but I do think that there could have been a way to make our dishes more interesting. Strike 2.

We didn’t stick around to give them a chance to Strike Out so we opted to have dessert at home - homemade Peanut Butter Cake with Chocolate/Butterfinger filling and yummy Butterfinger topping that I made the day before for our family get-together. Hmm, I wonder if we have any left over right now? I think I’m gonna run upstairs and take a peak!
