shu uemura Summer HANA-BI Collection
Over the weekend, I invited my friend Helen out to the shu uemura store on Fillmore so that I could introduce her to the wonderful Cleansing Oils that I’ve been sampling for the past couple of weeks (review to come!). When we got there, I was pleasantly surprised to find a new summer collection, HANA-BI, created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of when Mr. Uemura opened his first boutique in Tokyo in June of 1983.
While Helen browsed around the cleansers and skincare, I poked my nose (literally) in these three gorgeous summer fragrances and palettes to get a closer look. Every year to commemorate the first boutique opening, shu uemura releases a limited edition collection as a reflection of the season. This year HANA-BI, meaning “fireworks”, is inspired by the elements of nature - Source (water), Rose (flowers) and Terre (earth).
Each eye shadow palette features 6 colors along with a highlight. Fleur de Source is pretty full of earthy colors with pops of blues and greens that mimics the colors found in water, capturing the essence of a serene spring and cool beauty. The fragrances in the HANA-BI collection are made with Depsea water with essential oils as the core fragrance ingredient. Fleur de Source is a cool scent with notes of Citrus, Coriander, Basil, Paraguay Orange Leaf, with Watery Papyrus.
Fleur de Rose is probably my favorite of the three, inspired by the beauty and sophistication of flowers. My favorite shade in this palette is the grayish purple; I can see myself wearing it all year round.. maybe a soft smoky eye? I can’t wait to get my hands on this one. The fragrance is also a beautiful, light floral scent (I’m a flower kinda girl with it comes to perfume) with notes of Amber, Turkish Rose, Jasmine, and Ylang Ylang.
The third palette in the HANA-BI collection, Fleur de Terre, is a great one to have in your makeup bag this summer. The golds and coppers are soft, subtle and seem like they’d complement most skin tones very well. Fleur de Terre is inspired by nature’s energy and the fragrance features Citrus top notes with Vanilla and essential oils of Bergamont, Rosemary, and Sandalwood.
shu uemura never ceases to impress me - these color pairings are fun, yet dainty and if I haven’t mentioned it before, their eye shadows are beautifully pigmented and finely milled. Creating looks from shu is easy and almost fool-proof for me because they blend so well!
If you’re lemming this shu uemura Summer HANA-BI Collection, you can snag one of these palettes ($65 US) or fragrances ($85 US) beginning June 19th in stores, counters, and online.
EDIT: If you’re going to be in San Francisco on June 18th, the Fillmore store is having an Opening Cocktail Reception to celebrate the 25th Anniversary Boutique Birthday from 6pm - 9pm. RSVP at (415) 395-0953. Let me know if you’re going!
Hope you’re having a great Wednesday night! It’s minutes before the Top Chef finale - who’s gonna win??? Stay tuned because you know I’ll keep you updated.
