Heading to Reno with NARS Dolce Vita!
Good morning lovelies! I couldn’t sleep last night because I’m so excited to start my mini vacation to Nevada today!
I woke up at 4am (it’s true, your eyes aren’t deceiving you) so I thought I’d get ready early and share with you my Reno FOTD. It’s a fresh and light face with an emphasis on the lips for easy touch-ups in the casino – ha! You know I can’t have my face melting off in 90 degree weather with heavy makeup, right?
I just got NARS Dolce Vita Velvet Matte Lip Pencil ($24 US), a dusty rose shade, and couldn’t wait to wear it out. If you’ve never tried their Velvet Matte Lip Pencils, these babies are jumbo pencils that are really fun – kind of like using a huge crayon to color your lips. They are also enriched with vitamin E to help keep your lips moisturized. While this may help a little, I find that it’s still a little drying; after all it is a pencil.
Using Dolce Vita as a base since it’s uber long-lasting, I helped it along by applying just a touch of LipFusion gloss in Summer over it to keep my pucker from looking a little too fleshy and dry. Because Summer has a little bit of gold in it, I decided to build my look around my lip color. I opted for a subtle gold eye and kicked it up with a darker charcoal shade with gold flecks right at my lash line to make my eyes pop. Here’s what I used:
Eyes:
- MAC Paint Pot in Painterly
- MAC Solar Bits in Scatterrays
- MAC Neo Sci-Fi e/s in Magnetics Fields
- MAC Eye Pencil in Coffee
Cheeks:
- MAC Solar Bits in Scatterrays (fell from my eye application)
- Lancôme Color Design Blush in Model Mocha
Lips:
- NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita
- LipFusion Lip Plump Gloss in Summer
I’ve got a few more things to do before I head out in a few hours (like PACK!) and wanted to let you know that updates might be scarce over the next few days but I will definitely try to keep you posted on my adventures while I’m away – and if Angelina and Brad have their baby!

Which Dolce Vita products do you have? I originally wanted to get the lip gloss but I’m happy with the pencil.
I haven’t tried Bobbi Brown’s lip crayons so I can’t tell for sure if they are similar or not. I do want to try them out eventually and when I do, you’ll be the first to know!

I used to hate my lips – my uncles used to make fun of me and say that I had duck lips and looked like Daisy Duck because they were pouty but now, I love them!
Do you have a feature that you really hated as a kid but learned to like now that you’ve grown into it?

I do like the Dolce Vita gloss – I think it is one of those colors that looks different on everyone.
I’ve been eyeing up the NARS lip pencil set that’s coming up with Nordstom’s Anniversary Collection. It looks fantastic! Do you think you might try some other colors too?

The rest of my trip has been fab, although we had a slight detour yesterday and are heading back this morning. It’s been a long week and as much as I love vacation, I’m ready to head home! Do you ever feel that way when you travel?
