Scrub It Away with MAC Volcanic Ash Exfoliator
Thank goodness I’m home, and with being away for almost a week, I was more than ready to get back into my regular routine.
After making it back to San Francisco in record time (I’m talking just under three hours baby!), I spent the entire afternoon catching up on work email in my pajamas and then a few hours just vegging out in front of the TV watching missed episodes of America’s Best Dance Crew and discovering a new show on A&E – Intervention.
Have you seen this? It’s a crazy documentary where people with drug addictions think that they are being profiled only to discover later on that their families have scheduled interventions to make them go to rehab. If you’ve got a strong stomach, I recommend it because it’s pretty interesting. But watching a 23-year-old guy shoot heroin into his ass cheek is not for the weak at heart.
Watching two back to back episodes of Intervention made me decide that I needed a good cleanse myself and hopped into the shower to get all the highway travel grit off me. I gave myself an extra dose of pampering with a full body scrub down with MAC Volcanic Ash Exfoliator from their Future Earth collection that was released a few weeks ago.
Although it can seem really weird at first, this scrub is really great. It’s black in color and looks really dirty like soot so it feels bizarre to rub it all over your body. But it’s a good exfoliator that foams up to light gray subs once you rub it in – with small enough particles to keep it from being too abrasive but they’re still big enough to get the job done right. A heaping tablespoon is enough for me to slosh off all the dead skin to reveal a silkier, softer me.
For $19 bucks a pop, it’s a little more than I’d like to spend but overall not too shabby considering a little goes a long way. Plus, it’s a product that actually makes you clean when it looks all gucky. It’s got that same cool factor that mud wraps have for me when I visit the spa!
What are some of your favorite body scrubbers? Have you tried this product yet? If not, MAC Volcanic Ash Exfoliator is sold out online right now but you can still find them at your local MAC counters. Let me know what you think!

That looks scary. For my face, I like Origins Never a Dull Moment. It’s gentle enough for my hypersensitive skin; my face doesn’t feel like it’s on fire after I wash it off.

wow, been seeing a lot of bloggers trying this product out, I haven’t used any scrubs for years now coz of my dry skin, I am more into moisturizing..i’ve exfoliated so much the past years..i think i have to rest my skin for now..and exfoliate ..maybe next year? hahahah no no..i’l be exfoliating still but not as frequent as before. YOu went back to your system ? or still as crazy ?

I love mixing up my own exfoliator :] just use about a teaspoon of high quality oil like grapeseed or even olive oil add about a cup (or however much you want) of sugar and enough honey to get it mixed up eh maybe 1/2 a cup (could be totally off I eyeball it)… it makes your skin super soft and radiant… and it smells like a cookie!

Hi Christine,
The very first facial exfoliator I ever used from the department store was Never a Dull Moment! It’s such a great product and it smells so incredibly yummy! Thanks for the memories, girl!

Hey Nikki,
I haven’t noticed any dryness from exfoliating – but then again, maybe it’s because I only do it once every so often. What product did you use? I hope you get back into it – I just love how soft it makes my skin feel

Hi Kathleen,
Wow, homemade face scrub! Your recipe sounds so yummy and easy! How long does your mixture last you before you have to make another batch. I’d love to try it sometime, although I’d imagine that the sugar particles would dissolve after a short while.
Hope you’re having a great Tuesday!

I wholeheartedly agree with you, Toya! It’s so icky yet yummy at the same time. Hopefully enough of us can get MAC to bring it back!
How goes it, by the way – it seems like ages!! Hope you’re doing well

Hi Lima,
This stuff really is amazing! Since it’s LE I’m trying to use it sparingly
We should definitely get on MAC to make it part of their permanent collection!
