Get Radiant with Shu Uemura Brightening Oil
Now that summer’s almost over, your skin might be feeling a little suffered from too much sun exposure – perhaps you’re noticing dullness, dark spots, or even skin inflammation as a result of too much time under the sun. But really, who can blame us? With the weather we’ve been having here in San Francisco (it’s 11pm as I write this and it’s still hot), I want to be outside soaking it up as much as I can!
But once the heat wave is over, you can bet that I’ll be reaching for Shu Uemura’s new Brightening Cleansing Oil. This new product is the latest addition to shu’s skincare line up with ingredients to help purify my skin to help it look brightened and less dull. Prune Extract has anti-inflammatory properties and helps improve rough skin; Sakura Leaf Extract contains anti-oxidants and has soothing properties; and Depsea Water, shu uemura’s proprietary ingredient provides hydration to your thirsty skin.
Like their other cleansing oils, this is a dual product – a makeup remover and cleanser in one. What could be better than a two for one?? I’ve using the High Performance Balancing Cleansing Oil, Enriched and I love how well it works so I’m sure that the Brightening Oil will not disappoint. Radiant, gorgeous skin – here I come!
Shu Uemura’s new Brightening Cleansing Oil starts at $35 US and is available online now or on counters beginning in October 2008.

yay I will be finishing up 2 bottles of Shu cleansing oil and this one is interesting, I would go for this as my 3rd one. I’ve used the Original formula, the anti aging green one..and i think this is next!

I just finished the pink bottle of the Shu cleansing oil and then switched to the DHC cleansing oil.
But after I finish, I want to try this one!

I like that you made a video. yay! I have heard so much about shu’s skin care items but they are just soo pricey. Have you ever using MAC’s Cleansing Oil? If so, how do they compare?

Hi Lilan, I lived in Japan for a bit and over there, they had those whitening cleansing products everywhere, to get whiter skin (I don’t know if/how it actually works, because I’ve never had any desire to be whiter).
This is product doesn’t seem to be one of them, but I just wanted to make sure.
By “brightening”, it just means getting healthier skin, clearing up the skin, and not getting a brighter (in shade) skin… (right?)
Also, to what skin type(s) would you recommend this product? My skin is very sensitive, and mixed (quite dry skin on the cheeks at times and a tendency for oily or problem skin on the T-zone)…
Would this be something you would recommend for me? (Or what else would you recommend?)
Lastly (sorry for asking all those questions! btw, thank you for sharing all you’re sharing with us), for some reason, I always frown when I hear “oil”; my skin does not like oily textures. What is the texture of this product and what feeling is left on the skin after applying it?
Thank you!!!!

I second Tiphaine
I have been dying to try this but I am worried that it will make me break out on my face! Also, which size bottle are you using in the video ($35 size or bigger?) cuz that’s a pretty big bottle!

Hey Nikki!
I don’t think I’ll ever finish these bottles of cleansing oil, or else I’d want to try that anti-aging one! Did you notice any changes when you used it? I’m deathly afraid of wrinkles, LOL!

Hi karrie,
I’ve heard that DHC is a great deal and is less pricey than Shu – my friend uses it and she loves it too!

Hi Marisol,
Shu might be a little pricey but I’ve really liked everything that I’ve tried from them. I haven’t used MAC’s cleansing oil yet; I don’t use much of their skin care items. One of these days I’ll give it a whirl

Hi Tiphaine,
You’re absolutely right – this Brightening Cleansing Oil is meant to help your skin look healthier and more radiant vs. whitening the skin. I’m pretty fair as well and have no desire to be whiter! LOL!
I would definitely recommend this product for drier complexions or for use in the winter when the skin needs more hydrating. For me, this is great to use in the non-summer months when skin is duller and is in need for moisture.
If you have oilier skin, I might not recommend this for daily use – maybe every other day to keep a balance. If you have super oily skin, I’d go to your Shu counter and ask for a sample to see how it works for you before buying a full bottle.
The texture before you emulsify it with water is definitely oily, since it technically is an oil. But the final result after I rinse is really nice – soft like a baby’s bottom!
Other than this, you may have heard me rave about La Mer Foaming Cleanser which might be great for your skin type. It’s nice for every skin type. This product comes with a pretty hefty price tag, but I’ve been able to stretch it out by using it every other day (alternating between my Shu cleansing oil).
If you’re on a budget, try out iQ Derma Daily Renew Refreshing Cleanser. This is the other product that I use sometimes and it really works to get all the grime and makeup off.

I hope this has been helpful for you! Let me know if what you’re using currently and maybe I can search for more products that might help

Hi Nosh,
The bottle I’m using in the video is the 450 ML bottle which retails for $75 US. It’s a great deal consider the smaller bottle (150 ML) retails for $35. You’re getting 3x the product and I’m certain that it will last a really, really long time!
As I mentioned to Tiphaine, I might not recommend this for super oily skin. I have drier, more combination skin, so I really like their cleansing oils

Thank you very much, Lilan, for your advice!!!!!
I’ve been using products by Avene for the past few years. It’s really great for my dry skin. They were recommended by my dermatologist back when I was living in France. I think it’s the #1 dermo-cosmetic brand there.
But then, I’ve recently developed a mixed complexion.
So, I’m really having problems and trying to find something that I could use for the more oily parts of my face.
So far, skin care products for mixed skin have had poor results, so I’m more leaning towards keeping the products I use now for my dry skin and finding another one for my T-zone (i.e. using two different products on my face).
I’ll be checking those products out, at least at counters to see if they could work for me.
Again, thanks, Lilan!
