Haute or Not: Black Lips

lancome-piha-black-gloss.jpg

You all know that I’m all for trying anything and everything when it comes to makeup trends. That’s right, I’m not scared of vampy red lips, bubblicious fuschia pink lips, or orange eyeshadow. But… I am afraid of gothy, black lips.

When Yves Saint Laurent sent this beauty look down the runway during their Fall 2008 Ready-to-Wear show, I immediately dismissed the black lip look and told myself this is something I just couldn’t rock. But, as with everything, there’s always that lingering thought. What if I could rock this and actually look good? I’m probably still too chicken to wear it but at least there’s now an option that might just be do-able for me.

This fall, Lancôme will debut a new black lip gloss – Color Fever Gloss in Piha Black. It’ll make its way to counters in a $48 US set along with Color Fever Lipstick in Piha Red, modeled after the color of the soles on Christian Louboutins.

If you are braver than I, put yourself on the Lancôme wait list so you can snag yourself of only 500 sets available in the United States, exclusively at the Bloomingdale’s 59th Street location, www.lancome-usa.com and the five Lancôme boutiques beginning in November. The list for Bloomingdale’s is now open, just call (212) 705-2886 to reserve a set. The rest of us will have to wait until it becomes available online!

What do you think of Lancôme’s first color collection from Aaron de May, new artistic director for makeup?  Is this black lip trend one you think you can rock?
