I Spy Operation Colour by China Glaze

adv-of-tin-tin.jpg

I was never much of a comic book reader as a kid, except to read random issues of Adventures of Tintin that my uncles had lying around the house. I mean, who wouldn’t want to read about the adventures of this cute European reporter and his cute little fox terrier sidekick, Snowy?

As with any comic or cartoon strip, as much as it is about the words, the images play a huge part in telling the story as well. And the folks at China Glaze are really “breaking free” from traditional concepts and have tapped into this boys’ comic market to bring us gals a little piece of it with their new fall nail color collection, Operation Colour. Check out how some of the shades really look like they come from the Tintin cover!

The lacquer shades in this collection is definitely spy-inspired to give us colors that you’d quite often see in those comics, you just never knew it until you sport them on your tips. I’m wearing Pink Underground today, a pale pink with blue undertones and a subtle shimmer that just gives that extra bit of oomph I’m looking for.

Last night I was watching a few old episodes of HBO’s Entourage; while they may not be real super heroes, Vince was at Comic-Con for his upcoming role as Aqua Man. This totally inspired me to swatch the rest of the Operation Colour collection while I watched the boys do their thing on the small screen.

Revolution is a cream, tomato red – definitely a pretty, much bolder red than I would normally wear but nothing to really write home about.

operation-colour_code-orange.jpg

I don’t ever recall wearing orange shades but Code Orange might be one that I can rock. It’s a little on the pumpkin orange side with a smidge of shimmer. I definitely don’t think I’d personally wear this for the fall but maybe when summer rolls around again.

Golden Opportunity is the deep, dark cousin of yellow. She’s got a hidden, mysterious side to her – not like a bright, lemon yellow but more like a mustard yellow.

operation-colour_secret-peri-wink-le.jpg

Secret Peri-wink-le is probably my favorite of the bunch – from the color to the formula. This polish was so easy to apply, not too thick or thin, it dried beautifully and the shade is (as Lianne would say) gawgus! I hardly have any words for this blue-ish, purply, gray-toned color – I just… love.

operation-colour_agent-lavender.jpg

They say, save the best for last, but I actually think that Agent Lavender was my least favorite of the collection. I’m generally not a fan of pastels and while this is a good pastel lavender, it’s much better suited for nail art accents, in my opinion.

What are your favorite shades of this collection? If you could come up with a concept for a new China Glaze collection, what would it be?
