Does Aveda Dry Remedy Beat the Brittle?
With the cold weather, I’ve been more prone to blow-drying my hair to prevent myself from catching the sniffles. But with lots of blow-drying comes brittle hair that’s been losing its sheen from too much heat.
In hopes to help my mane’s current state of drab, I tried out Aveda Dry Remedy Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner ($24 US each).
Containing buriti oil (from palm trees that grow in wet areas in tropical South America) and promegranate for moisture, I love that the exotic moisturizing ingredients are combined with more traditional scents like rose geranium, ylang ylang, and a hint of vanilla.
Dry Remedy Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner claims to improve dry hair by up to 63%, but for me it fell short. My hair still feels a little coarse and even a bit weighed down. Normally I wash my hair every other day but with these, after a day and a half I’m feeling like the grease fairy is coming to visit.
It may be because I have fine hair therefore the oils are weighing it down. If you have thicker or coarser strands this collection might work well for you as there are tons of positive reviews on the Aveda site.
The Bottom Line: For me, Aveda Dry Remedy Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner doesn’t beat the brittle but it smells great – floral and earthy but not over the top.
Feelin’ Achy Breaky – Not My Heart, Just My Neck
Yesterday I was watching Planet Earth, you know that series from BBC and The Discovery Channel from last year? Well, I was laying on the couch musing over penguins keeping their young underneath their fat pouches, polar bears sliding around in the snow, and oohing and ahhing over the amazing Blu-Ray picture. When I finally got up, I had this major crick in my neck.
Despite a couple of efforts from the Boyfriend to massage it out, today it’s still bothering me and I can’t figure out what to do to help it. I took an Aleve but apparently drugs aren’t working on me today – LOL!
Hopefully, an afternoon of just relaxing and no chores will do the trick. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

What shampoo and conditioner do you like the best, please.

Aren’t the polar bears so endearing? I am not much of an animal person as in I haven’t had many pets, but seeing this series made me feel for them.
Funny I never think about changing my hair care depending on the season. Usually concentrate on my skin.

I find that Aveda products can be a little drying. They have a great anti-humectant. Kerastase has amazing products, but they are uber expensive. The All Soft line from Redken works great, and it is cost efficient, but it is a little much for finer hair so only condition the ends.

When I was in Japan, I was using the hotel shampoo and conditioner by Crabtree & Evelyn.
It actually made my hair soft and shiny.
I haven’t really found a shampoo line that I particulary love.
But I would recommend the Biolage line.
I’ve also been deep conditioning twice a week and it’s improved my hair.

Hi Barbara,
I’ve actually really enjoyed Aussie’s Opposites Attract line – it works for me and I can find it at my local drugstore!
What are you currently using?

Hi Marisol,
I watched the Ice Worlds segment just last night and I thought it was so sad that the polar bears have to work so hard to hunt for their food – did you see him swim that far out into the ocean??
I don’t usually think to change my hair regimen either.. my hair just tells me it’s unhappy by breaking every time I brush it, LOL

Hi Tanya,
I used Redken All Soft years ago and I loved the way it smelled!

Hi Karrie,
How fun! When did you go to Japan?
I know for my hair I need to be better about giving it a treatment once or twice a week. I have a couple here that I just haven’t used… bad I know. I will try to do better, I promise

Hi Lilan,
I really think it’s worth doing a treatment.
I’m doing one so I can prep my hair for a possible perm in the future.
But it’s not just any perm, it’s a japanese/korean type perm that just gives waves and not tight curls.
Haven’t decided yet.
I was in Japan last month.
Very fun!

I absolutely LOVE Planet Earth. It is one of the best productions I’ve seen in my life.
As far as shampoo goes, I’ve always had good experiences with Aveda products. Plus they smell so good.
