Holiday Look: MAC Passions of Red Palette

I’m still thinking about holiday looks so today I decided to play around with MAC’s Passion of Red 6 Smokey Eye palette ($38 US) from their holiday release.

This particular palette has been one that I’ve reached for quite often since I got it a few weeks ago.  The packaging is sturdy enough for me to tote around everywhere, although slightly awkward with the huge red gem right smack in the middle.  That doesn’t deter me though, beautiful is beautiful!

The colors in this set are no nonsense with very obvious combos if you’re just using this one palette.

Top Row (L-R): Dark Devotion, Satin Taupe, and Scant
Bottom Row (L-R): Carbon, Ambiance, and Gorgeous

Most days I only use either Satin Taupe (my new fave!) or Ambiance on the lid with a highlight and then run out the door.  But since this is the Smokey Eye palette, I decided to do that for my holiday look.

Using just the bottom row, I started by sweeping Gorgeous on my browbone  and followed that up with Ambiance on the lids, building up the intensity of the color by layering.  I really like Ambiance; it’s a soft shade but has an overlay of glitter to keep it from looking dull.

Next I used a shu uemura Drawing Pencil from the Mini Trio Set in Black to thickly line the upper lashline and the outer 2/3 of my lower lashline.

With a stiff smudge brush, I picked up Carbon and smudged out both the upper and lower lashline to smoke them out.  Finally, I dabbed a little bit of Gorgeous to the inner corners of my eyes for an extra sparkly effect.

To complete the total look, I dabbed MAC Mineralize Blush in Warm Soul just on the apples of my cheeks and sparkled up my pout with Chanel Glossimer in Seashell.  I included another shot of my FOTD with flash so you can see how shimmery the Glossimer is and how it reflects light beautifully!

Lazy Saturday Afternoon

It’s a little cool in Orange County today and the forecast says to expect rain so I’m a little reluctant to go out even though I need to go back to the mall to do cross off some more people on my list.

I think I’ll stay in for a couple of hours and then see if I’m brave enough to put up with the holiday shopping crowds on a Saturday afternoon.
