Holiday Look: shu uemura Mika Collection

The holidays are creeping up and I’ve been thinking about how to sass up my look for the festivities.  There are so many options, from classic to flirty and colorful, it’s so hard to decide.

Today I thought I’d try out a brighter look that’s a little beyond my norm and experimented with a couple of new goodies from shu uemura’s holiday Mika Collection in collaboration with renowned Japanese photographer and film director Mika Ninagawa.

Secret Luscious Rose ($65 US), one of three palettes released in this collection, is really pretty with pops of color amidst mostly muted, dusty shades.  This one makes a great everyday palette for me, I can already imagine a few combos I’d like to try out for day-to-day.

But today, my mission is to sass it up so I based my eye look around the purple shade.  As with all shu uemura shadows I’ve tried, these are finely milled and easy to blend.  The pigment is also nice and extremely buildable for a bolder look.

I started by priming my eyes and then sweeping the violet shade all over my eyes and concentrating on the outer third, layering carefully so I wouldn’t end up looking like a purple people eater today when I go shopping.

Then I picked up a little bit of the light pink color and dabbed it on the center of my lids to create a little bit of dimension when the light hits my eyes.

To keep it fun, I lined the top lid with the deep blue liner from the Drawing Pencil Mini Trio Set ($35 US), also released in the Mika Collection.  I really like these drawing pencils as they’re almost like a gel liner in a pencil form.  They go on smoothly and are pretty difficult to smudge – and that makes for great staying power.  The other colors included in this set are Black and Burgundy Brown.

I finished my holiday look with a brighter pink flush using MAC Beauty Powder in Sweetness and bold fuschia lip with Givenchy Pop Gloss Crystal in Plum by Night.  I also swept Prescriptives Winter Reflections All-Over Highlighter on the apples of my cheeks, chin, along the bridge of my nose and forehead to add a pretty glow.

The Mika eye shadow palettes are currently sold-out on the website, but you can still pick up these pretty shu uemura Mika holiday goodies at any of their boutiques in San Francisco, Orange County, or Boston.  And why not? The shu professionals can tailor a gorgeous holiday just for you while you’re there!

Not Black Friday, But..

Today’s my day to shop ’til I drop.  I have a few people on my Christmas list I still need to shop for and plan to hit up Macy’s during their Friends & Family Event going on right now.  Hopefully it’ll be a great one-stop-shop for me and I’ll get to everyone today, but we’ll see!

What are your Friday plans?  I hope whatever you’re doing that you’re having a great day!
