An Insider’s Peak at MAC Hello Kitty
How well do you know Hello Kitty? Let’s take a quick quiz, shall we?
Which of the following statements about Hello Kitty are true?
- Hello Kitty is 34 years old
- Hello Kitty is not a cat but actually a girl
- Hello Kitty is about to join an exclusive club with RuPaul, Dame Edna, Fergie, Dita Von Teese and Pamela Anderson as members
- Hello Kitty has a dark, edgy, vampy side
- Hello Kitty has a twin sister named Mimmy
- Hello Kitty is a make-up addict
Answer: ALL OF THEM!
This spring, Hello Kitty will be getting a MAC makeover. The makeup artistry line will create a limited edition collection that explores the adult-side of our childhood obsession.
The Daily Cookie was invited to the collection preview back in November and all I can say is that I cannot wait for the collection to come out. It’s finally time to upgrade my pink rubber erasers and pencil boxes for some more mature Hello Kitty gear.
The MAC Hello Kitty Color Collection will feature Hello Kitty-ed lipsticks, Lipglasses, tinted lip conditioners, eye quads, makeup glitter, powder blushes, beauty powders, nail lacquer, glitter eye liner mascara and false eyelashes. If you’re daring, choose from the Loud Kitty colors. If you’re more classic Hello Kitty, choose from the Milk Kitty colors.
For the ultimate Hello Kitty fans, MAC will also be launching a luxe mini-collection. The Hello Kitty Kouture line features Swarovski crystal-studded compacts with crushed pearl dust powder and pearl dust-laced Dazzleglass lip gloss.
Although I truly want every piece of the line, I hope the makeup fairies bring me the adorable, fetishy, plush doll, the mirrored key clip, beaded bracelet with dangling charms and the ridiculously cute purse mirror from the accessories line.
If you’re looking for some Hello Kitty goodies but don’t need any new makeup right now, pick up one of the practical makeup brushes or bags.
What do you want from the MAC Hello Kitty line?

If, and it’s a huge if, these make it to Norway I am going to be soooo broke! I want i all basically! (Except maybe for the brush holder, I keep mine in a brush roll – can not abide dusty brushes!)

This is going to be hard to choose!! What’s the difference between the two colour collections?

Thank you for posting these pictures! These look way better than the stock photos actually
Are all the designs printed on or do they have stickers at all?

Does anyone know what the limited edition brushes are? It looks like one is 187 and maybe 239, but I can’t tell what the 3rd one is. Can anyone help? TIA

Hi Karen,
The difference between the two color collections is that one is bold and edgy whereas the other is more original Hello Kitty cute and innocent. The edgier color has the eye glitter liners and purple (albeit sheer) Lipglass. The innocent palette has the more cutesy pinks and mauves. Both color collections are gorgeous though so I’m sure you’ll be able to find something you like from either version.
Be on the look out in February!

Jody,
Excellent guess! You got two out of the three correct. The model numbers for the brushes in this special collection are:
187SE Duo Fibre Brush
109SE Small Contour Brush
239SE Eye Shade Brush
And of course the adorable round plastic jar with the Hello Kitty face.
Hope that helps!

I’m far too excited for this and (oddly enough) I wasn’t too excited for BBR because I’m saving for this. I want it all… but as you said, it is hard times, so I’ll probably get mostly accessories and then maybe a lip-something.
Do you know if the brushes come with the HK holder?
Take care!!

Lesley,
I believe you get the HK cup with the three brushes. The four piece set is $49.50. It’s not bad considering makeup brushes these days are so pricey!

Fifrildi,
Most of the HK collection will be available in all the normal MAC makeup outlets (department stores and free standing MAC stores). But some of the more exclusive pieces will also available at http://www.maccosmetics.com. Perhaps you can order it on the website and they can ship the goodies to Norway? Hello Kitty is an international superstar so it has be be available abroad, right? I’ve even seen MAC counters at the Duty Free stores at the Narita-Tokyo airport.

Blu3,
You will get your Hello Kitty fix with this collection. The images are printed onto the packaging, not just stickers.

I am hoping that at least some of the pieces will make it here. I am (as a former employee of Stila/Estee Lauder) all too aware that if the preorders from the shops exceeds the amount made – Norway is the very first country to get cut.
But as you point out: There’s always the internet. And I am going to Japan in april, I can probably get my Hello Kitty fix this year no matter what!
(Oh – just to mention: Norway is so small; we only have one MAC counter!)

Miss Norway- I’d order off the American website. The release is February 12 USA, rest of the world in March. But people are mewling and howling to get at Kitty already so the world may be on short supply except for Japan- the new cutting edge fashion capital and home of Kitty.
I talked to MAC customer service this morning about something else and everyone over the age of 12 is bored and hot for the goods. Apparently the recent political shifts have everyone in a good mood and ready for a treat.
Kitty Kouture was slated for March First but may be out the 12th. Pricey- but catnippy.
