Back to Basics: Essie Spring 2009 Collection

essie-spring-2009-collection.jpg

Yes, we’re still right smack in the middle of winter and the rain and clouds outside keep taunting me to wear vampy reds and chocolaty browns on my tips.  But I say, the hell with all that, I’m ready for spring and I WILL wear hot pink in January if I want to.  ;)

Essie Spring 2009 Collection includes six nail lacquers in a range of basic colors from nude to bold reds and blue.  The collection of creme finish polishes is a bit retro to me, a nice throwback to your basics.

Lacquered Up is a superhero red that reminds me of Wonder Woman and complements my fair skin tone nicely.

I love the soft cotton candy pink of Flawless.  These types of pink shades usually don’t do anything for me but this one really won my heart over.  I have a feeling I’ll be reaching for this bottle many times this season.

Eternal Optimist is a straight forward nude.  However, it’s not entirely boring and makes a nice basic for interviews or if you work in a conservative environment.

Mesmerize came totally out of left field for me.  A blueberry-esque blue, this color was my least favorite for manicures but is a bold hue that would work well if you love doing nail art like my friend Nikki over at Ask Me Whats.  The thicker formula was also a bit of a miss.

Another red in the Spring Collection is One of a Kind, a cherry tomato red that’s a tinge on the orange side for me.

essie-spring_6-status-symbol.jpg

Status Symbol is what I finally decided on wearing this weekend as my friends and I head out tonight to Bruno’s in the Mission to start the week-long birthday celebration.  It’s a delicious hot pink that’s very “My Super Sweet Sixteen”, LOL  ;)

Which one of these colors are your favorite?  Surprisingly, I love the two pinks in this set – whowuddathunk?!
