Clinique Spring 2009 Sneak Peak: First Blush
Ah, spring.. the season for budding love. Do you remember the first time you caught him glancing at you? It was all you could do to not blush, make coy eye contact and smile back. Ah yes, spring, a season for First Blushes – and that includes your makeup.
Of all the spring collections I’ve seen so far, Clinique’s First Blush captures a fresh look that’s so effortless, it exudes youth and simplicity. I’m in love.
New for the season are Fresh Bloom Eye Shadows ($16.50 US) in four limited edition shades: (L-R, below) Maple Blossom, Tiger Lily, Apply Blossom, and Cherry Blossom.
Each eye shadow compact are pressed into the shape of the floral designs with two shades featured. For me, I would probably use these as one color since the contrast isn’t apparent enough to be two separate shades.
The textures on these are soft, which I love. So far, pigment is not as vibrant as I was hoping for, but these were quick swatches so we’ll see how I do when I actually wear them.
With the First Blush collection, Clinique also introduces a brand new blush product, Quick Blush. These are made especially for all you on-the-go ladies. The blush color is built right into the cap, all you have to do is twist the brush into the top and it grabs the pigment making it super easy for direct application to your cheeks.
Quick Blush ($21.50 US) will be available in four limited edition shades: Peach In-A-Pinch (L), Hurry Honey (R), Minute Mocha, and Berry On Time. The two colors I have are super pigmented but don’t contain any shimmer making it a nice universal color to wear all year ’round, allowing me to layer a highlight if I want some sheen.
If you’re all about the lips, the First Blush collection will feature four shades of Long Last Glosswear with SPF 15 (woot!): Honey Shimmer (L), First Blush (R), Air Kiss, and Whisper. The two colors here are the limited edition babies for the season.
I love the deeper pinks so I can’t wait to try Honey Shimmer. Since I’m checking in my luggage for my trip to Orange County this weekend, I’m toting all my new Clinique goodies with me this weekend and will hopefully be able to feature a fun, floral FOTD for you while I’m away. But for now, I must get back to packing my bags!
What do you think of this First Blush collection? Any eye-popping beauties you *must* have?

Hi eye4style,
Aren’t they cute? Which colors do you think you’ll get?

The two Quick Blush colors you have are pretty.
The blush blush looks like a good one too.

Love the blushes. And easy application is always a huge plus

Hi Karrie,
The brush is not as soft as I’d like it to be, but it’s a good sturdy one for on the go.
How is your weekend? I’m in So Cal again today and the weather is so lovely!

Hi Karen B,
Easy application is definitely key! I showed my friend this blush and she instantly loved it for its compact size and ease of use — so I had to give it to her!

Hi Sev,
I wore some of the colors this weekend. They’re so soft, perfect for when the weather warms up! Which colors do you think you’ll get?
On January 20th, 2009 Sev said:
Probably all of them… except, maybe, the pink one (but mostly because I have a lot of pinks). Then again, I have a feeling if I get to the store and see them all, they will all come home with me whether I like it or not. I am really craving that green though.
Do you know when this collection will actually be available?

This is one of the prettiest collections for spring that I have yet seen! It looks so soft.

Hi Sev,
Sorry for the delay in responding!
The green is super soft and really easy to wear. I believe the collection should be on counters beginning in February – just around the corner!

Hi Sherry B.,
I agree with you on that! It’s definitely soft and romantic. I’ve been reaching for Maple Blossom a lot right now when I’m not wearing much color.
Hope you’re having a good weekend!

The quick blush is a rip-off or a copy of a product AVON carried years back. The eyeshadows are pretty colors and design.

Hi thedragonslady,
You’re probably right that this isn’t the first product of its kind, but it’s always nice to see brands come up with new things for a woman on the go.
Hope you’re having an awesome week so far!

If I’m not mistaken, the old Avon product had the blush in the handle and it flowed into the brush. The Clinique product has the blush in the cap, not to mention the quality of the brush is significantly grader providing a smoother, more even color.
