Lancôme Spring 2009: Pink Irreverence

lancome-pink-irreverence.jpg

I was at the mall window shopping today, looking for a little retail therapy to cheer me up after a morning of ruined dim sum.  If the first meal of the day doesn’t go as expected, it can throw off my whole day (unfortunately).

On my way to check out MAC’s Brunette, Blonde, Redhead collection, I spotted something else that stopped me dead in my tracks – a new color collection from Lancôme.

Pink Irreverence is the first spring collection by new artistic director for makeup Aaron de May and it’s full of bright fuchsias and black shimmer and features Elletra Rossellini (daughter of long-time Lancôme model, Issabella Rossellini) as the face of spring.  Her classic features bode well even in a completely modern look, don’t you think?

I’m not normally a fuchsia kind of gal, but almost everything in this collection drew me in.  Starting with the Pink Punk and Black Palette in Irreverent Madame.

One of two limited edition Color Design Quads ($42 US each), Irreverent Madame features a shimmery, smoky black, a blue-toned fuchsia, a powdery pink and a pale pink.  The second palette, Mademoiselle Sass, offers a quad of warmer neutral brown shades.

Lancôme’s Spring 2009 Pink Irreverence also features a brand new lip formula that promises to last up to six hours for all you long-wear lovers, La Laque Fever ($26 US) in with four shades featured: Electric Pink, Pink Dimension, Lucent Nude, and Iridescent.

Swatched on my hand, these new lip colors have a fierce shimmer factor that rivals MAC Dazzleglass.  However, La Laque Fever might have a leg up when it comes to color payoff.  In my experience, Dazzleglass is sheerer yet buildable.  With La Laque Fever I get more color with one swipe.  In the end, you might want to compare the two by price – $17.50 US versus $26 US.

Last but certainly not least, the Pièce de Résistance of the Pink Irreverence collection is the Color Fever Gloss in Piha Black ($25 US).  First introduced last fall in a limited edition set, Piha Black sold out almost immediately.  And it’s no wonder, this gloss is definitely on the dark side with loads of silver and blue shimmer.

I haven’t worn it on my lips yet, but I have a couple of ideas on how I want to try it in the next couple of days.

If you’re looking to snag one of these up, you should jump on it – I purchased the last Piha Black today and they just put up the display yesterday!
