A Dynamic Duo: CHANEL Hydramax + Active and UV Essentiel

Diamonds and dogs might pop into your head when someone asks who your best friends are, but have you considered a good moisturizer and sunscreen?  This dynamic duo is definitely your skin’s BFF.

Two years ago I tried CHANEL Hydramax Moisture Boost Cream and I got hooked.  It’s not around anymore (sadly) but CHANEL has filled my void with other Hydramax products.

And if I didn’t know any better, I would have sworn that their brand new Hydramax + Active Moisture Gel Cream ($70 US) was the same moisturizer I used a couple of years ago – it’s got the same luscious scent of summer peaches and that same pale blue hue.

Recessionistas Rule! Preserve Color with L’Oreal EverPure

loreal-everpure.jpg

So you just spent $150 at the salon getting your color on, only to have your shade fade because you’re not using shampoo and conditioner made for color-treated hair.

L’Oreal EverPure Color Care System offers good maintenance products that won’t cost you an arm and a leg (as your color may have).  With three collections – Moisture, Smooth, and Volume, I picked up the EverPure Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner ($6.99 US each) to help keep my locks hydrated, too.

When I first tried this hair care system, I mused at the unconventional scent of the shampoo and conditioner.  The Rosemary/Juniper and Rosemary/Mint combinations had that organic, earthy feel to them – very different from the tropical fruits or floral scents we normally get from shampoos.

However, after a couple of washes, the novelty of herbal-scented hair wore off.  Yes, I could see that after two or three weeks of washing that my color wasn’t fading as quickly but I just couldn’t get over the smell.

2009 Oscar’s Beauty: Marisa Tomei

Is it just me or does Marisa Tomei seems to be frozen in time?  Tomei is as beautiful now, if not more beautiful, than she was back when she won her Best Supporting Actress Oscar for 1992’s My Cousin Vinny!

Tomei’s look at Sunday’s Academy Awards did not disappoint. Although there were some naysayers who found her gown too fussy, I thought the look overall was gorgeous. My favorite part of the look was the haphazard-but-thoughtfully-styled coif.

For the special night, Tomei looked to Frederic Fekkai’s Adir Abergel to create a hairstyle that would complement the ivory gown. Abergel’s inspiration for the hair was the cascades of soft movement winding along the twists and turns of her dress.

Here are his tips on how to get the look:

Blue and Purple FOTD with MAC Hello Kitty

mac-hello-kitty-beauty2.jpg

Feeling a little inspired today, I did my own variation of MAC Hello Kitty Wild but worked the prominent blue and purple from the promo images into a mild, work-friendly version.

For my lips, I reached for MAC Hello Kitty lipstick ($14 US) in Fashion Mews, a pale lavender with a slightly inconsistent creme finish. With that being the case (and the fact that I always need a little bit of sheen, I finished my lip look with MAC Hello Kitty lipglass ($14 US) in She Loves Candy, a sheer pale blue pink that complements Fashion Mews nicely.
