Celebrity Get the Look – Oscar’s Edition: Penelope Cruz

I know I let this drop off for a week but now that prep for the Oscar’s event this weekend is in full swing, I’m bringing back my favorite beauty looks from all the top female nominees this year.

Last week, I featured 4 Kate Winslet looks; today – Spanish beauty Penelope Cruz.  Cruz always looks gorgeous and super sultry – here are my picks to recreate her pretty looks to perfection.

1. At the 14th Annual Critic’s Choice Awards (2009) – Penelope’s complexion is to-die for; give your skin a flawless finish with CHANEL Lift Lumiere foundation ($65 US) with SPF 15.

2. At the Los Angeles premiere of Vicky Christina Barcelona (2008) – Create volume by applying Matrix Amplify Root Lifter ($14 US) to the scalp and blow dry for a lifted effect.

3. At a MANGO event in Madrid (2008) – Get Cruz’s perfectly tousled waves by spraying David Babaii for Wildaid Bohemian Beach Spray ($9.95 US) through damp hair before styling to give your mane additional texture and volume.

4. At the Volver AFI Festival (2006) – Channel Audrey Hepburn’s signature Breakfast at Tiffany’s beauty look and create a cat eye with Pop Beauty Cat Eye liners ($16 US) made especially to perfect the flick at the corners of your eyes.

5. At the World Premiere of Gothika (2003) – Bold, pink lips are back in this season!  Wear MAC Cremesheen lipstick ($14 US) in Speak Louder, a poppy blue pink hue to recreate Penelope’s pink pout.

What’s your favorite Penelope Cruz red carpet look?  My personal favorite is her Audrey Hepburn look – the bangs are too cute!!  I only wish I could pull it off myself :)

Peach and Purple FOTD with MAC Hello Kitty

I love wearing neutral colors almost everyday (MAC Satin Taupe is one of my go-to eye shadows!) but on days where I want to mix it up a little, I find myself reaching for purples.

Today I dug through my eyeshadow collection and pulled out a few different purple shades to pair with my new MAC Hello Kitty Mild lip colors that I hauled last week at the MAC store on Fillmore in San Francisco.

MAC Cute-Ster lipstick ($14 US) is a sheer peach that’s not extremely unique, but for a gal like me, it makes for a nice basic shade this spring.  I thought it was going to be a little more opaque but because it was so sheer, I topped the lipstick with MAC Mimmy lipglass ($14 US).

Mimmy is a richer, pearlized pinky peach that pairs well with Cute-Ster to create a more prominent lip color.

Now that I had my lips all ready to go, I was ready to focus on my eyes.  Backwards I know, but lots of days I base my total look on my lips – do you do the same?

All Access: Backstage at Twinkle

{Image Source: WWD.com}

Who:  Twinkle, the quirky and whimsical line by Taiwanese designer Wenlan Chia

When: Sunday, February 15th, 2009 at the Classic Car Club

Face:  Gregory Arlt of MAC was inspired by a “girl’s first date in the 50’s” so most of the look is concentrated in the eyes.  Arlt starts with an application of MAC Phloof! and Naked Lunch shadows on the eyelids.  (Phloof! will do double duty as a highlighter on the cheeks too.)

The eyes are then lined with Blacktrack fluid liner and brought to a short point to give her a “kitten eye” (as a full on “cat eye” would be too mature).  Arlt then proceeds to the eyelashes and piles on several coats of Plush Lash mascara in black while the eyebrows are defined with a soft brown pencil.

Arlt uses Well Dressed powder blush on the cheeks to give the models a girly and flirty quality.  In contrast, the lips are daring, wild and provocative in a shade of creamy orangey red.  The shade, Lady Danger, is aptly named as a woman wearing this vibrant hue is very likely to cause trouble.

All Access: Hair and Makeup at Reem Acra

Who:  Reem Acra, the worldly go-to designer of fantasy wedding dresses and dazzling evening gowns.

When: Sunday, February 15th, 2009 at the Reem Acra showroom

Face:  MAC Key Artist Polly Osmond creates a monotone face by only adding color to the eyes and lips.  A taupe powder shadow is dusted on the eyelids and then brushed along the lower lash line.  The taupe-outlined eyes are soft and demure.

Osmond then paints the lips a subtle pink and leaves the rest of the face bare.  The outcome is a youthful and innocent look.

Hair:  Acra requested “sophistication” so Laurent Philippon of Bumble and Bumble delivered it in the form of a clean side chignon.  After misting Bumble and Bumble’s Styling Lotion throughout the models’ hair, Philiano creates a dramatic part by starting from the outer corner of one eye and pulls the slicked hair into a ponytail on the opposite side of the face.

The ponytail is then twisted into a tight hold, spun into a bun and then fanned out to create the oval shape.  The result is a smooth, clean and red carpet worthy style.

Spotted Backstage:  Reem Acra, Acra’s adorable white dog, Decleor Hydra Floral Deeply Hydrating Eye Contour Gel-Cream
