Charla Krupp Says, How Not To Look Old
It’s no secret, we’re all constantly trying to uncover every trick in the book to keep ourselves feeling and looking years younger than we are. And now, there actually is a book that highlights all those tips – from the ones we’ve learned over the years to some new ones you may not have known about.
How Not To Look Old: Fast and Effortless Ways to Look Ten Years Younger, Ten Pounds Lighter, Ten Times Better by beauty and fashion journalist Charla Krupp is like a textbook guide, chock full of really easy tips that I can incorporate every day to keep those boys guessing my age.
If you haven’t checked out this gem of a beauty guide, available on paperback today, I thought I’d do a series here on The Daily Cookie and share with you some of the things that I consider good reminders for myself – in case you’re like me and tend to forget. I also hope that we can uncover some new ideas so that we can look and feel younger together!
First, and most importantly, is keeping those wrinkles at bay. We might be able to hide and adjust here and there but our skin is pretty hard to hide, don’t you think? We’ve all got a good handle on what the steps are, but are you really taking the time to do them all? How Not To Look Old offers five steps to good skincare, do you know what they are?
Before I flipped to Chapter 8: Manage Your Wrinkles, I only thought of 3. Yikes, looks like I need to go back to beauty school.
Step 1: Cleanse! I’m pretty good about this one, I keep a cleanser next to the sink as well as one in my shower so I’m always washing my face with Biore Detoxify Daily Scrub ($7 US) and shu uemura Cleansing Oils.
Step 2: Exfoliate – I got this one as well, because sloshing off those dead skin cells with my Philosophy Microdelivery Peel ($65 US) feels really good afterwards.
Step 3: Restore. Here’s one that I completely missed. Charla Krupp suggests products fulled of antioxidants or Retin-A (proven to restore your skin). I always forget this step before I apply moisturizer. But now that I’m conscious, today is as good a day as ever to start, yes?
Right now I’m going to use Lancôme Génefique ($78 US), a new elixir of its kind for Lancôme that combines a cocktail of genes and proteins and is backed by 10 years of research and 7 (holy moly!) international patents. Génefique promises to infuse radiance an life into my skin to keep me younger looking so I can’t wait to start sampling.
Step 4: Moisturize. I don’t think I could ever forget this step in my skincare regimen because my skin feels tight and dry most days without it. I’m still using Estee Lauder Time Zone with SPF 15 ($58 US) on a regular basis and I love it.
And finally, can you guess the last step that I missed? Why it’s Protect, of course - as in sunscreen protection. How could I forget?? Easy, my moisturizer has SPF in it so I figure that’s good enough for me. While I think that’s sufficient for the most part, I definitely use more/stronger SPF when I know I’m going to be in the sun all day or on a beachy vacation.
Now it’s your turn, tell me if you turned in a perfect score for maintaining good skincare to keep those wrinkles at bay. Do you have any extra skincare tips to share, I know I’m dying to find out if you’ve discovered the fountain of youth
Stay tuned for more tips from How Not to Look Old here on The Daily Cookie. Or, if you want to score your own copy and are going to be in New York City tomorrow, make an appointment at the Lancôme counter at Saks Fifth Avenue between 3 – 5pm.
Charla Krupp is going to make a personal appearance there, offering ageless beauty tips and signing her new book. Just call (212) 940-2199 to reserve a spot for you and friend before space runs out!

I do all the steps except step 3.
I used to use a treatment before my moisturizer but I guess I must have cut it out at some point.
I did get a new exfoliator!
I got Modern Friction from Origins because they are currently having a F&F of 25% off.
They use it on you in the store (on your hand) and it makes your skin brighter and smoother.
Do you think you can do a review of the Lancome Genefique?
I’ve seen it displayed at all the stores.
It looks luxurious.

Hey karrie,
Oh I totally forgot about my fave exfoliator from Origins, Never a Dull Moment – have you tried that one yet?
I’ll definitely use Genefique for a few weeks and write a review to share with you
Happy Friday! Hope it’s drier in So Cal than it is here!

I cleanse, tone, moisturize, eye cream and exfoliate (once a week). I exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. I try to eat as little food with sugar and fat as possible ( I hear it makes people age). I’m now trying to wear a little makeup as possible too. I exfoliate my body and always moisturize and use a good hair mask once a week. Wow, I have so many steps! By the way do you know of any good drugstore eye creams?

Hi Lilan,
So far it’s dry in my area, but it’s rained in other parts of SoCal.
I like the rain as long as I am inside when it happens.
I’ve never tried Never a Dull Moment.
But it sounds like a great product.
I like that it says it will brighten the face.

Hi Ashley,
You have a great regimen and it’s awesome that you are able to keep up with it! I can hardly remember to do half of the things I need to
A good drugstore eye cream that Charla Krupp suggests in her book is Olay Regenerist Eye Derma-Pod Anti-Aging Triple Response System. Here’s a link in case you want to check it out.

What eye cream are you using right now?

Hi Karrie,
The only thing I like about the rain on weekends is the fact that I can go eat noodle soup for brunch and then stay indoors
Hope you enjoy your Saturday!

Hi Lilan!
The eye cream I’m using right now is RoC’s correxion eye cream. I saw that my dark under eyes did slightly disappear, but nothing else that it claimed to do. I guess it doesn’t really work since I’m still 18.
and thanks, I definitely check that out!
