IMATS Part 1: Beauty Trends and Tips
Thousands of people come the The International Makeup Artist Trade Show every year, a one-of-a-kind show to celebrate, play with, and learn about makeup. IMATS is held five times a year in London (January), Vancouver B.C. (April), Los Angeles (June), Sydney (September), and Toronto (November). This is the show for any makeup enthusiast.
The Facts:
- This event is open to anyone. You don’t have to be a makeup artist to come.
- The Exhibition Hall ticket costs $15 which lets you into the room where all the vendors are selling items.
- The $35 ticket lets you into the seminars where professionals like Eve Pearl, a 5-time Emmy Award winning celebrity makeup artist who’s clientele has included the cast of The View and Kelly Ripa, discuss topics and demonstrate tips and techniques.
Since there were so many fabulous makeup gurus, I learned so much at IMATS. Every single representative at each booth was very knowledgeable and gave me so many tips and trend predictions to share!
Make Up For Ever was one of the first booths I had to run to as they were giving a 40% off discount on all products! I learned from one of the artists I was chatting with that High Definition Makeup is taking off and easy, multi-tasking products are also becoming very popular. She was very informative and gave me these great tips:
Mix Make Up For Ever HD Elixir ($38 US) into Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation ($40 US) and apply with a stippling brush to get flawless, radiant skin. Their new product, Make Up For Ever HD Elixir ($38 US), is an amazing serum that glides onto the skin and gives a luminous touch.
Waterproof smokey eyes are in this summer. Dip your finger into Make Up For Ever Aqua Black Waterproof Cream Eye Shadow ($22 US) to apply a smudgy layer of this creamy shadow onto your lids, and finish off with Make Up For Ever Aqua Smoky Lash ($22 US) mascara. These two waterproof products will give you a non-fail, quick and easy smokey look that’s chic and effortless.
Stila notes that lighter layers are always welcome for the hot summer.
Stila Perfecting Concealer ($23 US) is great at multi-tasking because it also acts as a light foundation in a pinch. Just apply where you really need coverage, and concentrate the product on any blemishes you really want to conceal.
Stila predicts that shimmery, bright eye colors will be hot this summer. They recommend their new Stila Charmed Eye Shadow Palette with 24 Karat Gold which is on sale at Sephora for $10 US right now!
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is famous for their Obsessive Compulsive Lip Tars ($12.50 US). These lippies are fabulously pigmented and can be mixed with others to achive your own unique color. Obsessive Compulsive is special, because their professional strength products are dedicated to color, quality, and texture for all consumers – not just makeup artists.
However, they predict that their Loose Color Concentrates ($10 US) will be totally wanted this summer. These exquisite, shimmery pigments are lightweight, super refined, and smooth. Sprinkle some onto your hair for dazzling shine, as well as use it anywhere else on the body and face. They’re amazing and can be sheer or full-on depending on your preference.
Here’s another tip I learned: Spray your false eyelashes with hairspray and sprinkle some Obsessive Compulsive Loose Color Concentrates onto the sticky lashes. Then apply as normal, and watch your lashes shimmer and sparkle like jewels!
What beauty trends do you think you’ll try? Which booth interests you the most right now? Are there any trends you think are going to have a cult following this summer? Tell me in the comments!
