Nordstrom Beauty Trend Show, Part 1: Spotlight on the Trends

What kind of person would wake up at the crack of dawn to go to an 8:00AM cosmetic show? Me! Me! Me! I definitely did and so did 700 other women. Over the weekend, I attended the Nordstrom Cosmetic Trend Show at the Fashion Valley Mall in San Diego, CA with my sister Jade and my friend Desirae, full of expectation.
Nordstrom hosts these shows a few times a year where Kari Larsen, the Nordstrom beauty director, talks about the latest summer trends as different brands come up to the runway to talk about their latest releases.
You also get a goodie bag and breakfast during the show. Afterwards, you can get a makeover at your favorite counter. It costs $15 and is redeemable towards your purchase.
This year, all the cosmetic counters came up with amazing trends for the season. What are they and how do you get the look? We put together a little cheat sheet just for you:
Act 1: Bright lips are it for summer. Try fuchsia, orange, raspberry, or even the classic red. Lip glosses that dazzle and shine are fun for your lips.
Beauty Tip: If you don’t want bold, full-on color, use an eye shadow brush for a softer, more diffused lip. Also, try layering lip glosses over too bright lipsticks. For high impact lips, use a lip brush for perfect, controlled color. Then, blot to get the perfect shade.
The perfect products:
Dior Addict High Shine Lipstick ($26 US) in Backstage Pink, Designer Coral, or Casual Beige are all amazing lippies for this trend.
MAC Dazzleglass Lip Color ($18 US) in Love Alert and Funtabulous has tons of mega-watt shine and glitter for a beautiful sparkle on your lips.
Act 2: Luminous skin with subtle shimmer on flawless skin. There is no such thing as having too much perfection this season!
Beauty Tip: The bigger and fluffier the brush is, the more subtle and soft the shimmer will look on your body. Use shimmer on just one feature whether it be on your cheeks, lips, or eyes or where you want eyes to linger. If you love your legs, put some shimmer there.
The perfect products:
Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick for Body ($75 US) gives that gorgeous, shimmery glow. Beige, pink, and gold swirl together for an even dose of high shimmer. The over-sized compact is limited edition, but will last you a lifetime.
YSL Touche Eclat ($40 US) is the perfect concealer that also illuminates the problem area. This season’s radiant skin requires flawless skin. Use this magic pen to make your blemishes disappear!
Laura Mercier Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer ($42 US) is not your average tinted moisturizer. It gives great coverage while lighting up your skin with tiny bits of shimmer.
Act 3: Bronze skin is classic and a definite for summer. Everyone needs bronzer to fake that Caribbean tan, so say bye-bye to pasty white skin and hello to the streak free faux-tan!
Beauty Tip: Chanel actually gave us this genius advice! Heat up any bronzer with a blow dryer. Just lightly skim a blow dryer on low heat over your entire face and body after applying bronzer to activate it.
By doing this you are molding the bronzer to your skin giving you a more believable tan. Of course, you should make sure to moisturize underneath. Isn’t that idea genius? I’m definitely trying it.
The perfect products:
CHANEL Soleil Tan de Chanel ($65 US) is a super luxe moisturizing bronzing powder that has four shades. The gradual color looks amazing on all skin tones and ensures an even color. I love using just the bottom color for an amazing highlighter.

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Golden Perfection Self Tanning Milk for Body ($26.50 US) is a nice, thick liquid self tanning lotion for the body. It has a pleasant beachy smell and glides on very easily.

Hi itzzzkimmm!!
The Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer is definitely worth it. I got a sample and am loving it! The models for Laura Mercier looked flawless and youthful. The coverage is medium, but the formula is so light, you won’t know it’s there! I only use a little to cover my entire face. They also have oil free and illuminating formulas. It’s super amazing. Plus the sun protection doesn’t hurt! ( :
