Summer Basics from Prescriptives
I’ve been on a real lazy kick when it comes to makeup for the past week or so. Between waking up early for classes and wanting lie in bed to soak up the sun peaking into my room for a few minutes longer, I haven’t had the time to devote to as many fun makeup looks as I’d like to.
Thankfully it’s summertime and the minimal makeup look is IN!
These days, I just reach for a couple of basics and I’m out the door – Prescriptives Motor-Eyes Instant Action Mascara, Colorscope Plush Blush for Cheeks and Lips, and All Skins Mineral Makeup 16-Hour Wear with SPF 10.
I start with Prescriptives All Skins Mineral Makeup ($32.50 US) after my usual skincare routine, squeezing out a full nickel onto the back of my hand. It certainly is a long-wearing formula featuring the brand’s exclusive Radiance Emitting Crystals (R.E.C.).
The coverage works for me and is lightweight for summer after I’ve applied it onto my face, although I’m missing the luminosity factors it boasts with the R.E.C. After using Clinique’s Even Better Makeup for the past few months, I’m finding that All Skins Mineral Makeup is a little thicker and harder to work with as I try to smooth the formula over my skin. I think I much prefer Clinique’s tube to this one.
Coral blushes are the preferred cheek shade of choice for me this summer. After wearing soft pinks all spring, I welcome the change and like the pop of peach it gives me.
Prescriptives Colorscope Plush Blush in Tahitian Dawn ($20 US) is a gel-formula that lends itself nicely to create a fresh, dewy look. Gel products are huge right now, and I can see why. The colors come off sheer, but are buildable and are super easy to blend with your fingers – look ma, no brushes!
Finally, I perk up my tired eyes with a couple of coats of Prescriptives Motor-Eyes Instant Action Mascara ($32 US). This is a brand new edition to the slew of motorized mascaras that have been popping up.
For me, I’ve tried Estee Lauder’s Turbo Lash and Lancome’s Oscillation and I must admit that I love Prescriptives Motor-Eyes and prefer it over the other two. It delivers volume yet separates lashes, keeps the curl, and doesn’t flake throughout the day.
I can’t say I wasn’t skeptical at first when looking at the wand. The amount of product on it looks like it would cause clumping but it just goes to show, you gotta test ‘em all in order to know. And I’m so glad that I did!
The finished look is an effortless one and I have these Prescriptives basics to thank for that. All of these summer basics are on counters now if you want to check ‘em out.
What are some of your favorite basics for minimal summer beauty looks? Perhaps later I’ll spruce it up with a bold lip just to help brighten up this otherwise overcast day in San Francisco.

Thank you, Jess! Do you have any faves from Prescriptives that you’re currently using?

These days I only wear Cover fx cream foundation to spot conceal, MSF natural to set, peachy blush (MAC Style), and lipgloss.
I also got Fix+ from the f&f sale and I love it. Perfect for the no makeup look.

You looks great Lilan. Lately, I have been using my MAC SFF, Coralista, Benefit’s Eye Bright & High brow with a coat of Mally Roncal’s mascara and apply a tendertone. I rather get more zzzz’s… and it looks more natural.

Hi Arianne,
Lucky you got to get some goodies with the F&F sale! I hear that MAC Fix+ is really great – I can’t wait to try it now

Hi Marisol,
I completely forgot about Tendertones! I gotta see if I can dig those out
How do you like Eye Bright? I’ve been using it in my Smokey Eyes Kit but I see it normally comes in a pencil form. I think I’d like that better – looks easier to apply, yes?

It is definitely easy to apply. I usually swipe High Brow on my brow bone and blend. I apply Eye Bright on my lid and blend up to the crease. With some mascara & maybe a liner, it gives me a very natural look. It’s an easy eye look to pull off cause you really can’t mess it up. The pencils have lasted like two years.

Wow that’s awesome! Sounds like a great deal if it’s lasted you that long!
Happy Friday chica!!
