Basic browns have the stereotype of being boring compared to colorful neon and turquoise.  However, you really can’t beat a great palette of brown eye shadows to give an understated, flattering glimmer to your eyes.  Having great eye makeup doesn’t mean that it has to be flashy.

Petra Strand, famed makeup artist and founder of Pixi, realizes this and put together the Pixi Eye Beauty Kit ($28 US) in Bittersweet Cacao.  I love how she included matte and shimmery colors that have warm and cool undertones so that any gal can use this palette.

A double-ended brush is also included, with one side being a flat eyeliner brush and the other an eye shadow brush. Bonus points for the slim, cute packaging that takes practically no space in my makeup bag!

There are pale creams that work as highlighters and lovely taupes that make great bases. I love the subtle shimmer in some of the browns and the glowing coppery color from some of the shades.

All of these shadows blend together so effortlessly and smoothly, that you almost don’t need to blend them at all!  The buttery texture, even with the mattes, is a plus!

I was very inspired by this palette, especially since I LOVE brown eye shadows, so it was very easy for me to come up with a great look.

I started off by applying a primer, Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion ($16 US). Then, using the letters noted above, I smoothed ‘A’ onto my entire lid and angled ‘B’ into the outer V and crease.

Next, I used the flat eyeliner brush that was included to line my lower lash line with ‘C’. Finally, I finished off with ‘D’ by highlighting my brow bone and the inner corners of my eyes.
