My Urban Decay Favorites: All About the Eyes
Urban Decay’s Beauty With an Edge catch phrase makes me think of colorful, bold, and funky makeup. Their unique cosmetics do not disappoint the daring makeup maven. Here are some of my Urban Decay favorites that can be used to create great summer looks.
Urban Decay Book of Shadows ($45 US) is a bargain with 16 shadows, 2 travel sized brushes, a mini primer, and a mirror. With gorgeous pop-up art, this palette has become a best seller after it released for Holiday 2008.
Included are 8 best-selling eye shadow shades with an additional 8 colors exclusive to this set. From left to right, starting at the top working down: Perversion, Last Call, Grifter, Mayhem, Baked, Smog, Sidecar, Gridlock, Shakedown, Roach, Scandal, Midnight Cowboy, Goddess, Shattered, Absinthe, and Protest.
Each shadow has superb pigmentation and luxurious shimmer making it a great palette for those who are just starting their eye shadow collection. For me, Urban Decay Book of Shadows is a highly coveted piece in my makeup collection. Its limited edition status only makes it more prized, so snap it up quick before the person before you in line does!
Makeup is just so inspiring, and staring at the Urban Decay Book of Shadows gave me tons of ideas for FOTDs! Here are two eye looks: one for major drama and one for subtle allure!
For the first look, I started off with a layer of Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion and patted Mayhem all over my lid slightly past the crease.
Then, I used contoured with Shakedown in the outer V and the crease. To really add drama, I lined my waterline with Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide On Eyeliner in Zero and applied Perversion eyeshadow with a smudger brush on my lower lashline. This look is perfect for a hot party or fun event.
This is my version of a more subtle, everyday look using the Urban Decay Palette. To achieve it, apply Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion all over the lid to prime the eye. Then brush Baked onto the enitre eyelid.
Angle Smog into the crease and outer V for a smoky effect that’s not too harsh. Finish off with a swipe of Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide On Eyeliner in Stash and you’re good to go!
left to right: Yeyo, 1999, Zero, Bourbon, and Stash
Who says eyeliner should only be black or brown? Urban Decay offers 19 shades including gold, copper, teal, and silver. For my EOTDs, I used these eyeliners from their Velvet Rope set that offer the creamy goodness of gels with the convenience of pencils.
They’re waterproof, but you can smudge them to create different effects. With fabulous pigmentation, these can even double as eye shadows in a pinch! Just apply thickly and smudge it around. The warmth from your fingers will help to blend it in.
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion ($17 US) is hailed by millions as the cult classic primer; many addicts can not even think about living without this product!
The nude color disappears on eyelids to ensure that it will be wearable on all skin tones. Featuring a new bent wand to reach more product, less of the potion is wasted. And with the recent launch of Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Sin, a shimmery champagne shade of the primer, has set many hearts abuzz.
Eye shadow will never crease, smudge, or budge with this trusty classic. I never attempt makeup without it.

Loved this post as I love Urban Decay eyeliners! I really liked your first look with the black underneath, it looks different and chic! The second look is perfect and clean, as you said, great for a daily look
Have a nice holiday!

Hi Aurora!
Thank you! The first look is quite dramatic, as you can imagine. However, it’s still wearable. Maybe you should try the 2nd look.
You have a nice holiday too!

When you say “just pass the crease”, what crease are you talking about with single eyelids?

Hi Wendy!
Well, if you have a single eyelid, I would go right past the fold. When you open your eyes, part of your eyelid goes under the fold, right? Then, I would apply a little past the fold!
Hope that helps!

[...] There is no way in heaven that eyeshadow is going to look good and stick to my eye lids unless I spray crazy glue onto them. Thank goodness I don’t have to go that far, because Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion ($17 US) is the only miracle worker I need to keep my shadow on and the crazy glue off. Read my review here.
