Sparkle with Stila Indian Summer 24K Gold Collection
Indian summers are the norm in San Francisco, but up here in South Lake Tahoe, where I’m spending the next few days helping my mom with her business, summer is in full swing.
This morning, I was looking for ways to translate the subtle sparkle from the lake and tinges of gold in my makeup seemed to be perfect for the way life makes me feel when I’m here.
I took inspiration in Stila’s new Indian Summer collection featuring new goodies with real 24K gold infused into the products. The result is a light, summery look that sparkles just enough to illuminate my face, but doesn’t go overboard into a scary world of bling.
Stila 24K Golden Noir Smudge Pot ($2o US) is a fabulous edition to my collection of gel eyeliners. To the touch, the consistency is a little softer and more mousse-like than those of Bobbi Brown and MAC.
But like these, the application is a dream. It glides on smoothly and once it’s on, it won’t budge at all (seriously.) – great for hot and sultry climates to ensure no melting.
Best of all, the deep black brown color gets a bit of personality thanks to the flecks of real gold that’s infused in. It subtly reflects light and adds depth to enhance my sheer gold eye shadow.
On my lips is Stila’s new Lip & Cheek Stain in Mango Crush ($24 US), a vibrant peach shade with lots of pizzazz. Like 24K Golden Noir Smudge Pot, this also contains real speckles of gold and the result is a shine that radiates off my pout – is it just me or can you see the light bounce off my lips?
Texturally, this doesn’t excite me as much. While the color stays put after it’s applied, it doesn’t go on as evenly and quickly dries out my lips. However, I love the shade and found that if I carry a regular lip balm with me, I’m okay.
I’ve been loving this look so I wore it today as well as yesterday (when I took this FOTD picture). Although today I skipped the little touch of blue on the bottom lashline.
Nonetheless, you can bet that I’ll sport the gold eye/mango lip combo at least once more before I leave Lake Tahoe on Monday.
I hope everyone is gearing up for a good 4th of July holiday! What are some of your plans? Barbeque, fireworks? All of the above, I hope!
I’m sad to miss out on San Francisco’s local festivities but nothing really beats spending time with my mom with Lake Tahoe in our backyard.

Hi Karrie,
Thanks so much!
Do you have some fun summer staples you like right now?
Hope you have a great 4th of July holiday!

You have amazing skin! I love this smudge pot, it was actually the first one I tried and I’m hooked! I love Bobbi’s and fluidlines but this is so unique with the gold!
I like the touch of blue on the lower lash line? It’s a nice touch!

Hi Laurie,
Hope you had a great 4th of July weekend, did you do any barbecuing?
I’m totally hooked on these too, but the colors that I can get from MAC really can’t be beat. I used the blue shadow on the lower lashline to try and mimic the blue I saw in their Charmed Eye Palette that Sephora’s got online for $10. Have you picked it up yet?

Thanks Lilan! I did have a great 4th – barbecuing, fireworks, getting bit up by mosquitos – the usual:) It was amazing – love long weekends.
I did pick up the Charmed palette and I love it, but haven’t totally used it to its full potential yet. You should probably do an FOTD and inspire me:) LOL!
Have you tried Shu’s new painting liners? I haven’t, but they look great. Especially the purple!

You look great Lilan. How was your holiday? I spent Saturday in the city with my family & we watched the fireworks from the Presidio to avoid the crowds. Sunday we went wine tasting… yum! Hope you are having fun in Tahoe & don’t gamble too much.

Hi Laurie,
I got bit by those darn mosquitoes the very first day I was up in Tahoe, too! Sneaky little pests
I haven’t picked up the Charmed palette yet but for $10 I really need to soon, don’t I? What’s your favorite combo with it right now? When I get mine, I’ll definitely posts FOTDs!
Happy Tuesday!

Heya Marisol,
My 4th was good! I saw the fireworks over Lake Tahoe last year and since we were kinda wiped from the day, we opted to skip it this time to get away from the crowds and the traffic.
I did gamble lots over the weekend and didn’t fare as well as I wanted to but it was so fun.
Did you drive up to the Napa area for wine tasting or did you stay local? I’ve been wanting to find spots to go to that doesn’t require driving that far

Hey there! I’ve only used Charmed a couple of times – and have been using one shadow at a time either in the crease or to line my eyes. I haven’t really done a look with all the colors. They all seem to do well as individuals so I haven’t ventured out creatively!
But the pigmentation is awesome and these shadows are like buttah!
