Estee Lauder Double Wear Lipstick Stays On and On… and On

I can certainly think of a few scenarios where I’d use happily use a long-wearing lipstick:
1. My wedding day: Instead of worrying about makeup, I’d spend time remembering how I’m feeling while he says his vows; remembering to eat that fabulous menu I put together, and, of course, indulge on cake.
2. If I happen to be in an on-stage performance, I’d want my red lipstick to stay on while I belt out verses of You Give Love a Bad Name (karaoke, anyone?)
3. When I don’t have a second to breathe in between meetings but still want to look well-put together and ready for the job.

And in all of these cases, I’m thinking Estee Lauder’s new Double Wear Stay-In-Place Lipsticks ($22 US) will fit the bill.
Available in 12 shades, Double Wear Lipsticks are full-colored, creme finishes without any hint of pearl or shimmer that I can detect.

Of the four shades I tried, all applied on well and evenly except for Stay Pink, which required a couple of tries before I got an even coverage. The other shades went on creamy and smooth, which was great.
Stay Pink: bold blue pink
Stay Mauve: violet with gray tones
Stay Ginger: rich coral pink
Stay Scarlet: red-orange with pink undertones

Estee Lauder’s claims for 12-hour color does hold up for most of the day. If you don’t wipe it off right away, the color will set in and the best way to take it off is with makeup remover – which is a pain in my arse, if you ask me.
The other down-side to Double Wear Lipsticks, like with other long-wearing formulas I’ve tried, is that my lips tend to feel dry after about an hour or so of wear. To remedy that, I make sure to condition my lips well before applying.
But for me, unless I have a specific need for a long-wear lipstick, I’d much rather stick to touching up throughout the day for the freshest looking lip I can flaunt.
Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Lipsticks are available online and on couters now! Have you tried these lippies yet? What are your thoughts on long-wear formulas?

I always think that these formulas would be too drying. I do like stay mauve. I am more of a gloss person

Hi Marisol,
I agree that these are generally too drying and since I’m a gloss girl too, I end up slathering on the gloss over them anyway.

thank you for a great review, Lilan!
Stay Ginger looks fabulous!
I was just wondering if it does not make your lips dry as most “stay-in-place” lipsticks do.

Hi Marina,
So sorry I missed this comment!
I do think that this Estee Lauder formula is drying on my lips. I love Stay Ginger too so I apply a bit of lip balm under my lips before the lipstick and then again over the color whenever it feels like it’s drying out.
Not ideal but it works since I love the color!
Hope your Monday is a good one and let us know if you try these lipsticks out
