Southern California-Bound with Clinique Self Sun

Today’s the day I start my new job in Orange County and while I’ve prepared myself for the new position, I’ve worked just as hard to get my beauty routine in line for southern California.
Now, none of my friends sunbathe in their backyards on a regular basis, but with the constant sunshine down here, it doesn’t take much for them to achieve a natural sun-kissed glow that I’ve always been secretly jealous of.
While I lived in San Francisco, its micro-climates often resulted in fog and overcast skies on most days, making it difficult to get any color without having to visit the tanning salon. In an attempt to keep up with the Jones’ in Orange County, I gave my pasty skin some help and went from bland to tan with Clinique Self Sun.
If you’re a spray tan fan, but don’t want to spend too much cash getting it done at the salon, try Clinique Self Sun Body Airbrush Spray ($20 US). This ultra-fine mist dries quickly and gives you a nice, light layer of color in about an hour. I like how I can hold the can upside down and sideways and it still works!
If you prefer slathering on the lotion (like I do), use Clinique Self-Sun Body Tinted Lotion ($20 US). This one will give you instant color after applying. Don’t go too crazy, if you use too much, you’ll end up with a darker tan in a couple of hours. I like to go easy and use this every few days so that I can better control my color.
As with any tanning you do, either at the salon or at-home, don’t forget to exfoliate your skin well so that you get even color all over. Splotchy patches are sure to indicate your beautiful tan as faux instead of glow.
What’s your favorite self-tanner? Or do you prefer the salon spray tans? Let’s dish!

Good luck with the new job! I know the first few weeks are always a little more stressful trying to get the hang of things.

Have a happy first day at work!
Before you know it, you’ll be in the swing of things.
As for tanning, I just get whatever color I can when I’m out and about.
I don’t lie out or go to the tanning salons so only my arms and most of my legs are tan.
I wouldn’t mind trying the Clinique spray to even myself out.

How was your first day?
I’ve never used a self tanner. i am pretty lucky that if I go out in the sun i tend to get some color. Don’t hate me

Thanks so much, Heather!
The first few weeks are definitely harder when you start a new job, especially if it involves moving. I’m finding that that’s going to be the biggest challenge. (eep!) Have you ever relocated for school or work?

Thanks Karrie!
Yes, I’m definitely relying on getting my color while out and about, especially now that I’m spending 2-3 times more hours in the car.
Since my arms will be exposed a lot, I suppose I can just faux tan my legs?? LOL

Hi Marisol!
Oy, the first day was LONG.. I had to wake up at 4am to catch my 6am flight and now I refuse to go to bed early because I need to watch Top Chef, hahaha
And yes, I hate you for not needing to tan
