Throw It in the Beach Bag: Aveda Sun Care

Labor Day weekend is nearing and it’s our last chance for a weekend of sun and soak, one last hoorah before we officially trade in our bikinis for cozy fall sweaters.
I spent most of the summer in San Francisco where my swimsuit never sees the light of day because the bay’s waters are too cold and the sun hardly comes out until September.
But since I’ve been in Orange County, I’ve fully taken advantage of the 90 degree weather and my cousin’s backyard swimming pool during the weekends.
One necessity I’ve found is Aveda Sun Care Hair and Body Cleanser ($20 US).
I don’t know why I was weary; I have a preconceived notion that these types of specialized products – they smell weird, don’t lather well, or just don’t work at all.
Boy was I wrong!
Aveda Sun Care Hair and Body Cleanser has that familiar natural, bonical scent that lets me know it’s Aveda with a nice citrus aroma mixed in.
It lathered well, better than I expected, and left my hair feeling soft after an afternoon in the pool and not stripped from the chlorine.
As a body cleanser, it works much better in your own shower with a loofah to lather with. But I imagine if you used Sun Care Hair and Body Cleanser at one of those outdoor showers, it wouldn’t be as nice. I tried to squeeze a little bit out and lather up my body with just my hands but it just wouldn’t.
If you treat your hair to expensive highlights and dye jobs, try Aveda Sun Care Protective Hair Veil ($26 US). It helps to protect your locks from hours under the sun at the beach and the chlorine in your pool. Spray evenly on dry or damp hair – don’t over-saturate and reapply after swimming.

I’m toting these along with me this weekend in case the Boyfriend wants to hit the beach or we end up at my cousin’s house for our last summer BBQ and a dip in the pool with our adorable god daughters – the little one was much happier after we let her dip her feet in the water.
Have you tried the Aveda Sun Care collection yet? What are your favorite hair products to protect your locks from the sun?

I use Phyto Plage Protective Beach Hairspray. It gives my hair maximum protection from the sun. I love Aveda haircare products but I have not tried their sun care collection. It sounds great!
