MAC Style Black: Smokey, Shimmery Goodness

MAC brings us back-to-basics with a collection to bring out the sultry and sexy in even the most innocent of women.
But if dark and moody have always been your mantra, Style Black collection puts even more edge to your look with dark Mineralize Eye Shadows ($19.50 US) with gritty flecks of shimmer – it’s really to die for.

From left to right – Blue Flame, Gilt by Association, and Cinderfella.

Blue Flame looks more blue in the pan but applies on the darker side of blue/black, only really reflecting high amounts of blue in the sunlight.

Gilt by Association is a gold bronze shade that’s very wearable in the fall or summer, a texturally beautiful and universal color for those who love the mineralize frost formula.

Cinderfella is a color for those who love the traditional black smokey eye. Foil this shade to create a spectacular eye liner with flecks of silver shimmer.

To create the dirty smokey eye from the MAC Style Black promo images, you’ll definitely need to pick up MAC Greasepaint Stick ($17.50 US).
Instead of the traditional skinny black kohl liner, get more coverage with the Greasepaint Stick, a thick pencil for use on your eyes.

Once you apply this on, you can’t get it off without eye makeup remover – really great for that intentional smokey eye without the unintentional dirty smudge halfway through your day.
For my smokey eye look yesterday, I applied Greasepaint Stick all over my lids and then patted on Blue Flame Mineralize Eye Shadow over that. Greasepaint Stick really allows the shadow to adhere to it, giving a darker effect. Without it as a base, the color payoff would be a lot less noticable.
With a fluffy shadow brush, I blended out any harsh lines in the crease. As you can see, it applied on more black than blue but the blue flecks really give dimension and add a subtle twist.

Finish with a pretty pink lip and voila, an easy, sultry smokey eye that looks as effortless as it should be.

MAC Style Black collection is on counters now – have you checked out these sassy mineralize eye shadow shades yet?

I LOVE the greasepaint sticks! They’re fantastic, such great color payoff. I have Black, V and B. The mineralize eye shadows bug me because I don’t feel like they have enough color payoff, so when I found out that Meow Cosmetics made a color similar to Blue Flame called Warlock and a color similar to Young Punk called Necromancer, I bought the Meow version. I used Black as a base and tried the colors on top and loved the color payoff
I really love dark looks like this.

Hi Fresco Phyrra,
I saw your post with Meow and they look really great! I agree that the color payoff for Mineralize Shadows are not as good but layered with the Greasepaint Stick, they’re so AWESOME!
The smokey eye I did was so much easier to do and gave me the dark, dark eye I wanted. I hope MAC makes more Greasepaint Sticks in every color under the rainbow

Thanks Karrie! I was really diggin’ it too and I think I’ll try another one with Gilt by Associate for work tomorrow. The darker bronze looks office-friendly.
Have you tried these MAC mineralize shades yet? Do you have a favorite?
Hope you stay dry tomorrow, I hear it’s really supposed to come down tomorrow, eek!

I didn’t get anything from this collection.
But now I’m wondering if I should.
My lids are really oily and I didn’t know how the grease paint stick would hold on my lids.
I do think Gilt By Association is pretty.
I think I’m going to hold out for Sephora’s F&F and get some Nars duos eye shadows.

Hi Karrie,
I think one mineralize shadow from this collection is definitely worth it, if you’re into the smokey eye this season.
I almost forgot about the F&F event for Sephora, I really want to get some more makeup brushes.
Is NARS the only thing on your list?

FYI, if you apply the mineralize eye shadows with water they go on very densely and you can really see the color. I was disappointed when I got them in the mail also until I tried them wet.
