CHANEL Collection Noirs Obscurs
Vamp is back and in a big way. Everywhere I turn it seems that all the new collections are inspired by the intrigue of black – for both eyes and lips!
CHANEL enters the mix with their own Collection Noirs Obscurs, inspired by black as the symbol of luxury, modernity, sophistication and seduction.
At the center of the collection are the smokey eyes you can create with eye shadow quad Quatour Boutons de CHANEL in Les Folies Noir ($60 US) – or should be able to anyway. I wasn’t able to get the level of deep pigment or satiny finish I wanted to recreate the model’s look.
I was hoping that mine was just a lemon in the bunch but if you’ve read other reviews online, you’ll soon learn that CHANEL, who usually brings beautiful shades and textures collection after collection, just missed the mark with this quad.
The colors are not deep at all and from the swatches you might be able to see that the matte finishes make the shades look a little drab.
I also thought that the colors didn’t vary enough between them. When I apply them, they look like mostly the same color. I heart me some CHANEL but this quad will have to sit in my collection for use as an eyeliner to smudge up against my lash line – over another dark smudge stick like MAC Greasepaint to get the darker effect, of course.
I didn’t get my deep, dark smokey eye fix with Quatour Boutons de CHANEL in Les Folies Noir but I do love me some Vendetta, the vampy purple nail polish from the same collection.
Have you tried anything from CHANEL Collection Noirs Obscurs? What are your thoughts on Les Folies Noir? And if you have tips on application, please share!

I know that the picture is probably airbrushed but the lashes are fabulous on that model. I would love for my lashes to look that way.

In spite of all the criticisms, I bought the quad because I love a smoky look. But you are completely right, I have to hit it really hard in order to get some pigmentation. The green and blue is a bit better than the other two colours.
I am contemplating on buying the Murano quad, but I’m still not sure it won’t be a waste of money.
