Splurge or Skip: Prescriptives Lustre Holiday

Prescriptives Lustre Holiday promo

The Lustre Collection for Holiday 2009 is perhaps the best Prescriptives collection I’ve encountered in the past two years of The Daily Cookie.

I adore the cool shades in this set so much it’s bittersweet to know that Prescriptives will no longer be producing color collections come January.

Lustre Baked Eye Color Quad_Cool

So with that said, I will savor the beautiful shades and even lovelier textures from Lustre – a collection with underlying gold tones in each product making it a must-wear for me tomorrow during the Thanksgiving festivities.

Lustre Baked Eye Color Quad ($40 US) in Cool is one of two limited edition palettes for the season featuring a baked formula.  Because baked shadows are harder, I have to dab my brush deep into each color to pick up the shadow.

A heavy hand is definitely needed to get the true color payoff of each shade.  If you’re a clutz like I am sometimes or like to building up the color intensity of your shadows, you’ll love these palettes.  Or, try foiling the shadows to get deep, pigmented color right away.

From left to right – Pink Pearl, Metallic, Rose Gold and Spiced

Lustre Baked Eye Color Quad_Cool EOTD

For my eye look of the day, I applied Spiced to the lower lid, blending out any harsh lines to my crease.  I use a fluffy angled brush to pick up Metallic and sweep into my crease, over Spiced.  Finally I highlight with Pink Pearl.

If you look closely, you can detect gold shimmer laced throughout each shade creating a wonderful dimension and multi-tonal finish.

Lustre Shimmer Cheek Color_Cool

For my cheeks, I sweep a small amount of Lustre Shimmer Cheek Color ($24 US) in Cool Lustre, a cool rose plum.  This makes a great every day shade and a little goes a long way.  In my FOTD, I also brushed my new favorite Estée Lauder Opulent Shimmer Powder for an added glow.

Lustre Moonbeam Reflective Gloss_Ruby swatch

Finally for a sweet and rosy pout, try Moonbeam Reflective Gloss ($17.50 US) in Ruby, a plummy pink.  For me, the shade is a lighter, more subtle version of the vampy violet lips that are so hot this season.

Prescriptives Lustre Holiday FOTD

Overall, Lustre from Prescriptives is a collection you must splurge on this season.  Not only did it score a homerun with me, but I really wouldn’t want you to miss out in case Lustre is the brand’s last color collection – ever!
