Stila Smudge Pots Make Me a Gel Liner Convert!

Stila Holiday 2009 Smudge Pot Set

Almost everywhere I go, people are raving about gel eyeliners. They’re more pigmented and long-lasting then pencils; they aren’t as tricky as liquid, and don’t smudge as much as creams.

Plus, you can use it as a cream shadow in a pinch! Before now, I had never tried them because they just seemed hard to apply.

But I’m a beauty blogger, so I’m up for trying everything. Thanks to the Sephora F&F sale, I snatched up the Stila Smudge Pot Collection ($32 US), and now I can’t stop raving either! I’m totally converted, and am going to convert you too. :)

Stila Holiday 2009 Smudge Pot Set swatches

Included in this set are(from left to right) Kitten, Violet, Starry Night, Black and a mini eyeliner brush. Starry Night and Violet are exclusive to this set, and are simply eye-popping!

Even if you already have Black or Kitten it’s a fabulous kit that’s perfect for the holidays.

There are four smudge pots, which breaks down to about $8 US per pot, not including the mini brush. These mini smudge pots are about half the size of full sized ones but it’s still a great deal. I would recommend this set to anyone.

Stila Holiday 2009 Smudge Pot Kitten

A light champagne, nude color, Kitten is not unique.  It reminds me of Benefit Cream Shadow in R.S.V.P. The color makes a nice staple though, a great cream shadow for applying all over the lid. Although it’s a little too frosty to use a highlighter.

Stila Holiday 2009 Smudge Pot Violet

Violet is a super bright violet with pinky-purple glitter in the pot, and looks more subdued on the lash line but it still adds a nice pop to the lower lash line. It is a unique color to me; I’ve never seen such a vibrant purple for liners or cream shadows.

Stila Holiday 2009 Smudge Pot Starry Night

Gold glittery flecks in Starry Night are so unexpected in this beautifully deep blue that I immediately loved this shade. It’s so bold and trendy, but easy to wear when smudged onto the lash line. I love how you can see the gold flecks because usually in liners you can’t really tell.

Stila Holiday 2009 Smudge Pot Black

Black is your basic everyday go-to color, but the intensity of this shade is nice. I’d say that it’s a pure black with no blue or charcoal undertones. It applies perfectly onto my lash line and looks smokey when I smudge onto my lid.

Stila Holiday 2009 Smudge Pot with Brush

The mini brush is actually pretty decent! (Usually mini brushes that are included in sets are scratchy and horrible.) Its small size is perfect for dipping into the tiny smudge pots. The bristles are nice and stiff, if not a little large, and work well for these eyeliners.

The smudge pots apply smoothly and haven’t creased or smudged on me at all!  That’s really what sealed the deal for me. Even the Black didn’t transfer or smear, which has never happened before in my life.

If this is what all gel eyeliners perform like, I can’t wait to buy more!

Do you use cream, gel, pencil, or liquid eye liner? Any fans of the Stila Smudge Pot?
