Holiday 2009 Gift Guide: For the Teen

Most people have to live with the fact that they wore unflattering, crazy makeup and wild hair as a teen. Remembering the blue eye shadow trend or the popular “mullet” might bring tears of laughter and disbelief as you look back on it now.
Gifting ideas for teenage girls who love experimenting with trends like you did back then might be tricky. However, our Gift Guide for the Teen ensures that you won’t have to rely on the been-there-done-that iTunes gift card.
Throw in a coupon for a makeup lesson from you so that (hopefully) they won’t have to hide their yearbooks pictures ten years later.

Lipsticks are the most appropriate for teens; it’s too aging and heavy. Try to distract your teen away from bleeding lipstick with the high shine glamour of MAC 5 Frisky Business Bright Lipglass Set ($29.50 US). The colors are bright, so your teen will be satisfied, but not clownishly opaque.

Your teen might be familiar with Clinique’s skincare line, but this holiday, introduce them to their fabulous color line with Clinique Lash Impact Set ($20 US). Mascara, a teen makeup staple, is always needed since it’s replaced every three months.
She’ll appreciate such a useful gift, and will love the drama of lush, full lashes. Plus, the price is budget friendly!

Why would anyone give their teen an eye shadow palette filled with neon green shadows and florescent blues? It’s like asking for makeup don’ts! Instead, gift her Too Faced Natural Eye Collection ($34 US), a classic palette filled with neutrals that she’ll cherish. She’ll love the cute tutorial cards included in this set too!

Who knew Urban Decay made nail polish way back when! Thankfully, they brought them back in this adorable Urban Decay Apocalyptic Nail Kit ($26 US) that’s perfect for the teen who wears black nail polish religiously. The edgy, hip Urban Decay brand will lure them away from black with more contemporary shades of blackened eggplant to gunmetal to (gasp) color! It is definitely the ultimate teen nail polish sampler.
Do you plan on giving the gift of beauty to your teen this year? Which recommendation was your favorite?

urban decay used to make really wild nail polishes. Lots of things with names like “bruise” and glittery blues that made your nails look like the nails of a dead thing. they used to be much edgier than they are now in all their products!

Hi knownever!
I don’t really remember the shades of nail polishes Urban Decay made, just the fact that they did. But, wow, those shades really sound edgy and unique like you said. I wish they hadn’t discontinued them!
