Number 4 High Performance Hair Care

I first learned about Number 4 High Performance Hair Care when I was backstage at the Juan Carlos Obando show during NY Fashion Week this past September.
Acclaimed hair stylists Didier Malige and Suzzanne Hawkins used Number 4 products to create the “hedonistic feel, inspired by a mid-century John Ford western film” look that was echoed by the MAC makeup team.
Derived from the finest ingredients, forward-edge technology and innovation, Number 4 High Performance Hair Care was designed to “run parallel to fashion, science, art, music and multimedia, essentially any and all creative cycles”.
This means that only the highest quality essential oils and extracts are used to repair and renew hair and that the formulation is free of harsh sulfates and stripping alcohols that can otherwise harm vintage couture and the environment too.
The entire Number 4 line is 100% vegan, sulfate free, gluten free, paraben-free and never tested on animals.

Sixteen products ranging from shampoos, conditioners, masques, styling products and body moisturizers are divided across four groups: L’eau de Mer (Hydrate), Lumiere d’hiver (Essential), Fleurs de Temps (Volume) and Jour d’automne (Style).

The standout of the line is the Lumiere d’hiver Reconstructing Masque ($68 US) from the Essential collection. The nourishing hair mask is a rich combination of avocado oil, shea butter, jojoba, sunflower seed and vitamin B5. This concoction contains three of the line’s signature Liquid Complexes: Vitality, Defense and Vibrance.
My hair is instantly softer and more manageable after each weekly use. The masque also smells wonderful thanks to the acai berry, hibiscus, mangosteen, oolong tea, black currant and yerba mate used in the liquid complexes.
Number 4 High Performance Hair Care is available across the country in high-end stores and salons including Fred Segal Studio, Kitson Melrose, Salon Bellezza at Caesar’s Palace, and Umberto’s Beverly Hills.

I found this product late last year while searching for a high end hair product line. We have experienced most of the popular professional lines and recently we compared to Oribe. We appreciate all of the added benefits such as “vegan”, “eco friendly”, “no wheat” and “no preservatives” but for a stylist, performance comes first. Number Four cleansing and conditioning products are certainly very high performing products and value oriented too. It is $45 for a shampoo and $48 for a conditioner and it seems a bit expensive initially, however long term use proved followings; 1. the 8 oz. contents lasts about 250 wash for a long hair (my hair is almost to the waist and requires mere 1 cc (single dispense) for a hair wash. 2. the uni-sex fragrance is so subtle yet distinctively delicious. 3. feels very clean for a long time, can skip a shampoo or two. We’ll review styling products next.
