RNM Restaurant

Another year, another anniversary.. and another yummy food experience for the Boyfriend and I to share together.
Yes, our anniversary was over 2 weeks ago, but the memory of our delicious meal is still fresh on my mind.
At first, we wanted to dine at an uber upscale, fine dining spot in San Francisco but with no reservations available we opted for a low-key neighborhood restaurant in the Haight called RNM.
On the corner of Haight and Steiner, RNM is a cozy restaurant that was great for an intimate dinner but also a little lively, making it a fun spot for hanging out in a larger group too.
The menu is eclectic and fuses popular types of cuisines together – French, American and Italian. You can have a traditional 3-course meal, or you can opt for all small plates to share. The Boyfriend and I decided to go with the standard, since we went the small plates route last year when we dined at Circa.

I started with these warm Chestnut Ravioli in Meyer Lemon Beurre Blanc with Brussel Sprouts and Truffles. The sweetness of the filling was a little too rich, but were countered nicely by the tart sauce. I could eat the beurre blanc with anything, it was so good!

The Boyfriend started with Apple Wood-Smoked Lamb Riblets with Jicama Slaw and Chipotle BBQ Sauce. We normally don’t order lamb but he loves meat (especially ribs) so much that he didn’t even hesitate. These were delicious – the slaw really gave put it over the top.

For my entree, I went out on a limb and tried the Buffalo Ribeye with traditional sides of potato gratin and creamed spinach. I ordered it medium and it was perfect – probably one of the yummiest ribeyes I’d eaten in a while. Because I knew it was buffalo, I could taste a slight gaminess to the meat but if you didn’t tell me, I would have thought it was beef.

And because I can’t get enough of mac and cheese wherever I go, I also ordered Fiscalini Cheddar Mac & Cheese – Fiscalini cheeses are from the Modesto region of California and was delicious! So creamy with just enough bite. I loved that I had leftovers to enjoy the next day!

For his entree, the Boyfriend ordered Ahi Tuna Nicoise over a bed of salad and baby vegetables. The tuna was deliciously fresh and perfectly seared. This was one of the first meals we had in a long time where we loved everything we ate.

The Boyfriend really likes creamed spinach and ordered himself a side to enjoy with his meal. Of course, it ended up being too much food but that was okay since I ate it with my mac and cheese the next day

And for dessert, a sweet treat that wasn’t going to bust our waistlines – a trio of refreshing sorbets in fresh waffle cones garnished with fresh fruit. So easy, yet so good – whowuddathunk? From left to right: pomegranate sorbet with mango; peach sorbet with kiwi; and blueberry sorbet with banana.
I would definitely come back to RNM, but with so many restaurants in San Francisco, it might be awhile until RNM makes its way into rotation again. Next time I’m in the city (not ’til February!) we’ll be dining at Hubert Keller’s Fleur De Lys – I can’t wait to tell you all about it!
