Splurge or Skip: CHANEL Cage Dorée

One of the few holiday collections featuring color, CHANEL Cage Dorée is inspired by the beautiful colors of exotic birds.
I adore this collection because I feel like it’s telling me to go on a tropical vacation this season instead of sit in my living room wait for the rain to come (and oh boy is it coming for the next 3 days!).
Cage Dorée features brighter shades of teal, green-gold eye shadows with sheer washes of color on the lips. But true to the CHANEL brand known for elegance, the eye colors are not too bold or bright at all.

I am certainly a fan of color, but you all know that I can never wear them too bold or bright, especially for work, and especially since I’m not 23 any more
The textures of LES 4 OMBRES Quadra Eye Shadow ($56 US) in Bird of Paradise are much nicer than the Quatour Boutons de CHANEL in Les Folies Noir ($60 US) from fall. They are softer and easier to blend, much like the quads CHANEL has released previously.

I would prefer that the colors be more pigmented so that you can get a bit more bang for your buck. But for those like me who like subtlety, you can easily perk up your look with this quad this season and well into the spring.
For my EOTD, I swepted the bottom right green-gold shade all over my lids and layered the top right gold color right above.

With a small angled brush, I patted the top left teal shade to my lower lashline and smudged it a little with my fingers or a Q-Tip.

When wearing subtle colors on my eyes like this, I love to brighten up the rest of my face with a shimmer powder for a an all-over glow. Try Les Tissages Lamés de CHANEL Shimmering Tweed Highlighter ($60 US).
The swatch I took doesn’t do any justice for the golden bronze shade with sparkley flecks in it. While the color is luminous, the shimmer is a little chunky. Apply with a light hand and a very fluffy brush or you’ll end up with splotches of gold on your face.

Maybe not for your face, but gota love the chunky flecks of gold for dusting on your shoulders and décolleté before heading out for those holiday parties.
Here’s an easy look with Bird of Paradise and Lamés de CHANEL and lip combo in Maldives Aqualumiére Sheer Lipshine ($28.50 US), a warm peach, and Aqualumiére Gloss ($27 US) in Canari, a sheer coral.
Splurge on the Shimmering Tweed Highlighter, but skip the eye shadow quad with the steep price tag of you’re not totally in love with the shades.

Have you splurged on CHANEL Cage Dorée Collection yet? Which pieces did you pick up?
