Great or Gimmick? Garnier Skin Renew The Brusher Gel Cleanser

When I first set eyes on Garnier’s new Skin Renew The Brusher Gel Cleanser, I was certainly intrigued and even a little bit taken aback by the usual looking contraption.  Even my aunt mused what this odd-looking brush atop this green bottle was and inquired about it when she saw it in the bathroom.

The brush looked hard and stiff to the eye but it’s actually made of flexible, soft bristles that’s supposed to help exfoliate your skin while cleansing.

It’s quite an interesting idea.  To use Garnier Skin Renew The Brusher Gel Cleanser ($6.99 US) you twist to open the brush head and squeeze the gel-like cleansing formula so that it fills inside.  Run water through it and then start massaging your face to start the lather.  When you’re done, rinse the brush and twist it shut.

Now I wasn’t sure just how much product I was getting out when I squeezed the bottle (it’s kind of a hard bottle which required a bit of strength).  So I just squeezed until I saw some of the gel cleanser peak through the top.

I really love the formula of Garnier Skin Renew The Brusher Gel Cleanser.  It smelled great and didn’t dry out my skin at all.  In fact, I didn’t feel an immediate need to apply moisturizer right after, although it’s a  good habit to do so to keep soft skin :)

But the brusher head – was it great?  Or just a gimmick?  I’m going to have to go with the latter and say it’s just a little to gimmicky for me.

When I wash, I really want it to lather up so that I know it’s work.  The soft, thick bristles didn’t give this to me.  I also found that it was extremely hard to cleanse around the eye area for fear that I’d poke out a pupil.

Overall, using the brush head to wash my face was way too awkward for daily use.  But because I like the formula, I’ve just been squeezing out the gel cleanser onto my hand and going with what Mother Nature gave me.

Have you tried Garnier Skin Renew The Brusher Gel Cleanser yet?  What do you think of the built-in brush?  Genius or Gimmick, let’s weigh in!
