Monsoon is a great spot for some people watching at 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica.
But consumer beware, the service on the patio where you can catch the hustle and bustle of the Promenade is first-come, first-serve and is really slow! Nonetheless, the food was not too shabby with a few inventive dishes. Like,

the Smoked Salmon Roll.
It’s shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, asparagus, cucumber, avocado and cream cheese wrapped in soy paper, versus seaweed, and is topped with smoked salmon and an eel sauce.
The Smoked Salmon Roll is HUGE and can easily be shared to fill you up. We ordered this roll because I had never seen this combination before, however there was just too much stuff going on and the cream cheese was just too much and overpowered everything else.

We also shared the Tuna Crab Eggrolls which sounded good on paper and actually wasn’t too bad in reality thanks to the citrusy ponzu dipping sauce.
The seared tuna was a little well done in some pieces and just right in others. The crab mixture seemed to be an imitation crab. The whole thing didn’t have the great seafood-y goodness to it I was hoping for. But again, I give it credit for putting items on the menu that I hadn’t really seen before.
Have you been to Monsoon in Santa Monica? What are your favorite dishes there?
