Date Night and Restaurant LuLu
One thing that’s kind of a bummer when you’re vegetarian is going out with friends, especially when dinner is involved.
Last weekend I was in San Francisco with a couple of our married friends. We decided to do a double date and went to go see Tina Fey and Steve Carrell’s new flick, Date Night (hilarious, by the way!) and then out to dinner afterward.
We walked from the Metreon downtown to Restaurant LuLu just a couple of blocks away on Folsom Street @ 4th.
Restaurant LuLu has some of my favorite mussel dishes ever and has a daily rotisserie special, a different one for each day of the week that they make in their huge wood-burning oven.
Unfortunately, it was my vegetarian week when we went so I didn’t get to indulge in the yummy Iron Skillet Roasted Mussels with clarified butter.
Nor did I get to try any of Roasted Duck (the Saturday rotisserie special) but I did help myself to that bangin’ blackberry and arugula salad. It was delish!! The Boyfriend made me feel a little better by telling me that the duck was a little overdone. I didn’t believe him but it helped a little
I also didn’t get to try the Grilled Halibut but did enjoy some of the mashed potatoes that accompanied it. Albeit a little bland, who doesn’t love homemade smashed potatoes?
For me, I orderd the Roasted Garlic and Goat Cheese Ravioli that came with sun-dried tomatoes, pine nuts and basil. These were pretty hearty and I liked the sun-dried bits to break up the cheese and pasta.
And since I couldn’t indulge on the entrees we shared family-style, I certainly wasn’t going to pass up dessert. I was (not so secretly) super excited that we ordered two.
Our friend Jamie loves Molten Chocolate Cakes and had to order it when we saw it at the top of the menu. It came with an English toffee ice cream that was ahh-mazing!
One of my favorite desserts is bread pudding so we got the Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding with bananas and a caramel sauce. At first I thought it would be too sweet from the description but it was actually really delicious and not too ooey gooey at all. The Boyfriend and I ate every bite.
If you’ve never been to Restaurant LuLu, it’s a casual environment with great rotisseries and wood-burning oven pizzas. If anything go and check out the mussels; we love ‘em!
