I have a weak spot for bagels. If you asked me that cliche question, If you could only eat 3 things for the rest of your life, what would they be? I’d surely answer – bagels, chili cheese fries, and a classic Vietnamese noodle dish “hu tieu dai”, or clear noodles.
Surely, none of these things are quite friendly to the waistline, so if there’s any way to lighten things up, it would make survival of the fittest just a little easier
While I have yet to find a healthy, low-fat, and low-calorie version of chili cheese fries, Thomas’ brands just came out with a line of Bagel Thins giving me the bagel taste I love for just about 100 calories each.
Thomas’ Bagel Thins definitely deliver on taste for me, my favorite is the Everything varietal. But these thin bagels leave me longing for the crunchy outer and the chewy inner that I’m used to from a bagel. I will say though, with the holidays coming up, these are really helping me curb my cravings for the 250 calorie version — and that’s not including accompanying shmears.

Like regular bagels, I like making sandwiches with Bagel Thins. Actually I prefer it to just toasting them up and eating them plain with shmears or jams.
My favorite thing to do with these is cut them up into smaller pieces and bake them off to make pita chips. One Bagel Thin will give me 12 – 16 pieces, depending on how big I cut them. Just pop them in a low oven, 250°F for 35-45 minutes, or until you get the desired crunchiness. With some hummus, they make a great low-calorie afternoon snack — a must in between all the holiday parties.
Have you tried these Bagel Thins? What are some of your tips and tricks to save calories during the holiday season?
