I’ve been back in Orange County for over a year now and every chance I get, I look for local fine dining spots so that I don’t have to drive out to LA (all the time, anyway) for some nice ambiance and food.
Our latest Orange County discovery is Canyon Restaurant in Anaheim Hills. The foodie in me was reluctant at first – I’m not used to eating at fine dining establishments that are located in strip malls and plazas. But hey, we’re smack in the middle of the suburbs so we decided to give it a chance.
Indeed, when we walked in the decor was modern, maybe a little brighter than I would have liked it but still nice. Especially when the hostess sat us on the bar side, away from two lovely couples dining with their young children.
We didn’t have much of an appetite for a starter on this particular evening, although the Seafood Pizza of the Day appetizer sounded quite delicious. And because we weren’t too hungry, I really appreciated that Canyon Restaurant offers small and large-size plates so that you could choose how much you want to eat. We both opted for small versions of our dinner.

Grilled Filet Mignon and Port Sauce with sauteed spinach, portabella mushrooms, and twice baked stuffed potato with gorgonzola. Although the sauce was a little too sweet, the 4oz filet was the perfect size for me. I ate every bite, with some help from The Boyfriend on those potatoes, of course.

Roast Wild Alaskan Salmon with fingerling potatoes, mushrooms, melted leeks, and grilled asparagus. So delicious!

With our small portioned plates, we definitely had room for dessert, “French Toast”. Essentially a bourbon bread pudding, with bruleed bananas, ice cream and caramel sauce. This plate was absolutely wonderful, I love hot and cold textures together.

It was so good, The Boyfriend even licked the plate
